Oprah and Lisa Ling is having a special on PUPPY MILLS, please if you are around a tv watch it. If you know nothing about PUPPY MILLS please watch and get educated about where those adorable puppies in the pet stores come from. It is sad but true what these momma and poppa dogs go through just to supply these chain pet stores, it makes me sick. I will be sad and I will cry when I watch it but I will watch the whole thing to remind me why i dont shop at pet stores that sell puppies, and why i protest (i havent been there in a little while but when the weather gets better i will go back) a local pet store in the area.

So watch it if you can and tell people about it, I am suprised that with the internet, and the amount of information out there that there are people still out there that have no idea what a PUPPY MILL is.

We were watching and saw that too. I don't know if we'll be home but even if we are, I don't know if I can take it. What we already saw was..... upsetting.

I'm glad that Oprah is going to do this show - so many people don't even believe mills exist. I have been closely involved and have had mill dogs - and people need to know about them, and take a stand along with responsible breeders. They shouldn't be allowed to do the things they do to these dogs - so many dogs.

I have tears rolling down my face right now. Not only is it just horrible but they just showed that they were putting down a dog that looked just like my Sydney.

That is great that you all cried, i dont say that because i am a mean horrible person but because if you cry then you were upset, and if you are upset you will be more willing to do something about it :) I cried when they did the tribute to Oprahs dog, and i am so excited that Oprah is getting involved because the more famous people that get involved then the more people that will find out that these places do exisit. I dont shop at places like Petco, and Pets plus and places that sell puppies that is how i make a stand, its small but it is something. I have in the past protested a local pets plus, but like i have said since the holidays and the crappy weather i have been unable to make it but want to get to do it again once it gets nicer out. Another something small that i feel like i am doing something, lol.

You guys are tough, that's for sure. I teared up at the preview so I knew I wouldn't be able to watch it. Especially if Oprah cries:(. I had it on, wasn'twatching it, I was at the puter and that Goodbye my Friend song had me tearing up as Cheryl used it in her Pippi vid, so I already relate that song to something sad:(.

I couldn't watch all of it but they really did talk seriously about how many animals are in shelters and how many full blooded dogs are available. They said how easy it is to get a good dog, already speutered and for so much less than what a petstore or breeder would charge. They mentioned that reputable breeders weren't the problem and were more likely to take back an animal no matter how long it had been if it needed a home.....

I fully support breeding only with a permit. I really like the laws being put into place in the Western US right now.

I dont agree with breeding, that is my personal feeling, but i loved how they said that no Responsible Breeder would sell there puppies to a pet store. This is defintely a step in the right direction for puppy mill dogs. Also that pet stores lie when they say that they personally know that the breeder treats their dogs good,a nd blah, blah, blah, blah!!!!!!!!! It is sad to know that those momma and poppa dogs spend thier lives producing litter after litter, litter every heat cycle and when the dog is no longer able to be bred they are cauolously taken out back and"put out of thier misery":( That is the thanks that they get for being mistreated for years, ugh people are so mean, it is so sad.

I started crying during it, but it was very informative. I think people need to be emotionally moved to start doing something. Especially when they were going to eutahnize.. I burst out crying.

Spring, I think you are very right about that. People need to see the horrible conditions in order to realize how bad it is.... we have become emotionally detached from the "news" a lot I think.

I think that with limitations we have to have breeders. If we didn't - then we might lose a species/breed. Some breeds are actually NEEDED around the world. My dog is a working dog but not as much as some Aussies. A lot of sheep farmers rely on their herding dogs for help in moving their flock around.

Restrictions could really help the overpopulation. One bad note is that some mixed breeds are actually awesome dogs.

I watched Oprah yesterday, and of course it upset and bothered me...esp. when they were showing healthy, happy dogs who were being euthanized. My dog almost suffered that same fate...the Humane Society was overflowing with animals at the time, and because Kaya suffered from pretty serious separation anxiety issues (and had never been socialized with other dogs), she was at the end of her time there, and was on the list to be put down. I adopted her and, while some of her issues have been a bit of a challenge, she has been one of the brightest blessings of my life.

Thanks to Oprah, Bill Smith, and others featured on the show, the puppy mill issue has been given countrywide attention. It is an issue that is often not believed, or is swept under the rug in the hopes that it will 'go away'. It is one of the most deplorable things happening today in North America...and hopefully with enough attention, more people will be aware of it. Laws need to be addressed and changed, and bringing this to the forefront, via someone of influence such as Oprah, is a good start.
