Todd + Mitch - both 08 Harris Hawks we got 19-07-08 and have been training up since then. Both have been great and absolutely amazing to fly and are just getting to the stage where they could be flown free (although until we get the telemetry that wont be happening :( ) but for now, they are on the creance (training line) and we might be getting a longer one so we can fly them further aswell as have them follow on, not long 'till they are hunting though :biggrin2:

BTW. My friend (the sister I never had lol) has been helping me with loads of the manning and training so you will see her in some of the pics/videos.

How did you get into training hawkes?

Went onto a Falconry Forum, saw a few pics of a Harris', found a mentor and I was hooked! :biggrin2: It has taken me 5 years to be able to get to the point that I am capable of training one I took the plunge and got one! I plan on getting a Red-Tail Hawk in 5-ish years aswell, or a Bengal Eagle Owl (depends on space, time and if I can get a job or not lol). Fortuneatly, a Harris is difficult to make a "bad job" of, but you need to know what you are doing to use them for they're full potential and that is exactly what I plan on. It takes alot of time actually, getting them fit, feeding, weight management (they have a certain weight that they will hunt and fly at) and so on and even though I have been studying for 5 years, had hands-on experience with a friends hawks, flying etc it is still really difficult with all different questions and stuff.

Will get more pics later - the laptop froze (again :grumpy:) so couldn't upload it but will try again now.

What gorgeous birds!  I was surprised seeing the picture of the bird being handled without a glove.  That takes a lot of trust!

Id trust these two with my life :) The only times they try to grip is either if we move to quickly and they get pushed off balance or if they are eating and they need to hold the food on the glove :D .
