I am unsure wether to neuter my rabbit or not. I always said that I would get him neutered but the last few days I am reading things online that is putting me off the idea. People saying its risky etc. I know there is a risk for any operation but Im scared to chance it now. I have him for 8 weeks and he is 8ish months. A very small breed. My guess is a netherland dwarf mix.

I wouldnt let my normal cat, dog, horse vet do the operation so I emailed a small animals vet which is an hour, maybe more of a drive away. This is the reply I got back

''we can neuter male rabbits from about 4 months old . The cost of it
includeds anaesthetic, painkiller/anitbiotic injecion, 2 and 10d check
up.
?79.45 is the price overall.''

they sound good as they do 2days and 10days checkups dont they? They also have thier own website too. In your opninion do these sound good? In your opinion should I go and get him neutered?

*I am getting him another friend, and people just tell me to not neuter cause of the risks and to get a male but wouldnt they fight? Please help me.

I would neuter. The only good reasons not to neuter is if you show him or are breeding him (and know what you are doing), health issues can also be a reason not to neuter.
The main risk is with the anaesthetic. You should ask the vet what they use for rabbits. I can't quite remember what is best, but there are topics in the Infirmary about it that go into more detail. As long as you have a good rabbit savvy vet who uses safe anaesthetic, the risks are lessened.

The cost seems to be good. You do want to get pain killers to take home as the shot they give doesn't last very long. It will probably be about $10-20 extra.
My vet doesn't do a 2 day check, but they do keep the rabbits overnight. They do a 7-10 day check which is free and only take a couple minutes.
As the vet is a bit of a drive from you, you might not want to do the 2 day check unless something happens. The 10 day check is usually good.

If you do want to get him a friend, neutering is a must. There are a few cases of 2 males where one or both are intact, but that is rare. Even 2 neutered male can fight.

An intact can get testicular cancer or other reproductive diseases. If he would get cancer, there could be more risks to surgery as he would be older and there is the risk of other complications due to the cancer.

I always promote spaying and nuetering.

It also helps with any behavioral problems, litterbox training, and health reasons.

Now, I do believe if his temperment is well, the "need" to nueter is less, as the health risks of not nueter is more great in females than males.

But that is a good price, and there really is no reason not to nueter him. They experiance a lot of positive behavioral changes with nuetering. :)
