A while back, I posted on here about my Ben being sick. Well, I took him on the hour trip to a very bunny savvy vet, and we found that he has a heart condition, the right side is enlarged. Of course, I am no longer breeding him, which I have to say broke my heart, but I just couldn't risk it. Anyway, I cannot decide if I should neuter him or not. I know if would be better for his health in the long run, but I am terrified of him not making it through the surgery. I am a breeder, so I have never gotten one of my rabbits fixed before. I have a couple of rescue buns I will be getting done in a few months, but haven't done it yet. Does anyone have any advice on this?

I'm so sorry about Ben. It's great that he can live out a long happy life with you, though! If you know that he has a heart problem, I wouldn't recommend it. Anesthesia has been known to cause problems in rabbits with heart issues.

As long as the other rabbits are healthy, they should do fine with the surgery. It might be a good idea to have their blood tested before the surgery to check for liver and kidney function because those problems can cause surgical complications too. It's a pretty inexpensive test and my vet recommends doing it before all surgeries, even for young, healthy-appearing animals.

Oh yeah, there's no way I'm gonna let go of my main man Ben. He's just a big ol' teddy bear, loves having his back scratched, he will start flicking his tongue and chewing on whatever happens to be in front of him when I hit that perfect spot! LOL

thats so sad./images/emoticons/sad.gifI hope you enjoy every last day with him.I wouldn't do it . your other rabbits should be fine but i wouldn't risk it. good luck with ben I hope he lives a "hoppy" rest of his life.
