I came across a breeder that uses a colorbond shed to house her rabbits. I was just wondering if that's common and what the pros and cons are?

I see the obvious con being that tin sheds are like ovens in summer time, especially when the temp on a bearable day is in the low 30's, with horrible heat waves of 40+ on the worst days/weeks (Celsius). She said she insulates the shed but how would you insulate it to deal with the extreme hot and cold weather?

Insulation in general keeps the temperature more moderated--a well-insulated anything will be warmer in the winter and cooler during the summer as long as it isn't opened to the outside a lot during the times when the temperatures a more different. If the ceiling and walls are all insulated (just regular residential insulation would work just fine), it would work to keep it cool.

The other trick to keeping it cool is to keep sunlight from getting in and warming it up. The rabbits' bodies will warm it up enough as is. It can also help to have circulation vents (shaded openings at the top of the ceiling to let hot air out, shaded openings at floor level to let cooler air in). I had a friend that kept her rabbits in a garage-type shed with a metal roof, and the rabbits handled it fairly well.

I don't worry about cold weather as much as warm weather--rabbits can handle temperatures below freezing. Insulating protects against both either way, though.

I see. Well that's good to know because i was worried for them. I looked up rabbits kept in tin sheds and came across some horrible stories. >.<
