Okay, so this is wierd. All 3 of my buns are thumping thier feet.
It started with Chewbacca when she was out of the cage should would do it periodically, then I caught Simba doing it too.

Then Miss Kitty has done it twice in her cage.

I know this is a signal for danger, but they are indoor bunnies with no other animals! What could be going on?

And its not be bothering them either..they do it at random times usually when I am not even in the room.

I mean I think its just an attitude problem, lol, but it may be something more since all 3 are doing it.

But angry at what? I can see Miss Kitty doing it, she is new to the surrondings but I don't understand why my Lionheads are. They will be just relaxing or wandering around.

Mine do that too. Nothing exciting happens at my house. We will be sitting there watching TV and one of them will start thumping. I will look at them and they don't look mad or scared. And if I open the treat container, whatever they are upset about they forget. So I really don't worry about it. I will look at them to make sure they are okay or talk to them. But they always look fine. It isn't like they run and hide to thump. I wish I knew what went through their heads sometimes.

Why do dogs bark? They think they hear something. Or think somethings there. If there is a new rabbit in the room and they all smell each other that will cause it.

This is true. Buns will start doing that when all is quiet as a Christmas Eve. They either get spooked, spook themselves or can be playing with another animal in the house as well, even if said animal isn't in close proximity.:D Silly bunnies, and some just do it more than others as well.;)

I've always lived either in a condo or apartment with my buns, so we always had neighbors. It was the random moving around noises from the neighbors that would cause the thumping reactions for them. So to me it is because the buns are hearing a noise they do not recognize in their usual environment or cannot place and it's making them uncomfortable, but not completely scared out of their wits.

Like: creaking noises from neighbors walking around above me, low muffled voices outside the window near their cage, weird house noises (pipes groaning or plinking from a leaky faucet), floor creaking in another room at night, that kind of thing.

Absolutely agree. New bun = guaranteed foot womps.

Charger will thump when we make bacon!!!!! lol, he thumps if the kids play with a key ring that they have, Benny thumps if my hubby is sleeping on the couch and snoring, Charger thumps if i walk by his cage with the clothes basket, lol. I thik they thump at unfamiliarity, whether it be a noise, smell or sight. It is especially hard if we ourselves dont see or hear what it is that is bothering them, lol

Scone does what I call "thump-jumps" sometimes.

Normally, when he jumps into bed with me, he's absolutely silent. There isn't any bunny, then all of a sudden there is, looking at me like "what? I've been here all along."

Every once in a while, though, he announces his appearance by thumping really loudly as he jumps up - sort of, "WHAM! I'm here!".

Strange bunny.

My boys thump at noises especially when I grab my keys Sophie goes nuts thumping so it's certain noises sometimes. Bentley does his best thumping at 4 a.m. and one time he thumped 32 times I couldn't get him to stop with treats, holding him, staying in his pen. Well the next day I got a call from my neighbor below me to complain OY. I told her what it was and how I don't have any control over it and he was only 4 mos old and everything was new to him so she was cool about it. Now he'll thump once and I'll tell him 'it's ok Bentley' and he stops after the 2nd thump.

32 times? LOL~ tell your neighbor he wasauditioningfor the tap dancing at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade! (Do they even do that anymore?)

George is thumping this morning and i have no idea why ? the thumps seems really loud and hard i`d` love to see a slow motion film of a thump to see just how they do it! Can they injure themselves thumping and how common are those injuries ?

I highly doubt they'll injure themselves by thumping. Its something they do naturally and as a warning, exc...

If he's doing it in the mornign its probably when people in the house start moving about and it may scare him or what not.

LOL yeh it was morning but he must have been feeling grumpy because once i`m stood there watching him and he knows he`s fine but he thumped about as if to say you`ve served our breakfast greens now you can go !! LOL

Unless he was mad b/c his breakfast greens wasn't prepared yet by the slave. Baci thumps as soon as we let him out of his cage in the morning after the girls go upstairs. His sign of annoyance that he had to wait his turn!

LOL yeh obv service was not up to scratch he`s been fine since this morning .he`s settled in so well he thinks he can complain about drops in quality of service !! LOL:biggrin2:

I think my bun does it to scare me. He will thump a whole bunch as soon as im in bed, so then i get up and check on him and he just sits there giving me his "i didnt do it face" so i go back to bed and he starts thumping again. We repeat the process a good three times or so before i just go to bed. Its like they know it worries us.. smart buns
