Hey all the mama cat that took up residence under our house had her babies. We have 5 kittens approx 2-3 weeks old (their eyes are fully open). There is a gray tabby, a tortoiseshell and 3 blacks. Not sure on the sexes. The gray, the tortoise and possibly one black I have found homes for. If anyone is in our area in Illinois (near Joliet) and is interested let me know. I hate to just leave them for the coyotes and our local shelter is sooooo overcrowded that I might as well leave them for the coyotes.

Please do not come onto this forum and say that you are leaving kittens to coyotes. It really was unnecessary to say, we do have cat lovers on this forum as well.

Try getting in touch with local cat rescues or posting ads through craigslist in your area.

EDIT TO ADD: Here is a link to some rescues in IL: http://www.hoosierkitties.com/rescue/ill.htm

First of all..I am sorry I worded it very poorly. What I was trying to say is that I am out in the country and it is unfortunately a fact of life out here. We have too many wild cats and not enough homes to take them. I have already called several shelters to be told sorry no room leave them loose. And when I said I might as well it was because they have more of a chance of surviving and NOT being put down due to overcrowding or being kept in horrible conditions. I have been to our shelter. I have rescued from it. As a matter of fact other than my golden ALL of my animals are rescues of one sort or another. I know of our local shelters and they are all HORRID. I did not post that to be attacked. I am sorry. I guess this board is NOT the place I thought it was. Please remove my post. Thank you

Oh and as an EDIT...I have 3 dogs, 2 cats and a rabbit and a guinea pig. So I am an animal lover. Not some jerk who gets off on hurting animals. Mopsy our rabbit is rescued from the coyotes.

We don't think your a bad person. Everyone here is an animal lover and we just don't like hearing about things like that. We are just trying to help. Don't take it out on us.

You need to wait untill the kittens are at least 8 weeks old before they can be seperated from mum.

If she is a feral she will be well equipt to care for them but maybe you could put a box in an outhouse so that they have somewhere safe, warm and dry to sleep in in the mean time.....if you dont have one then maybe even an upturned clean trash can with an entrance small enough for mum to get in and out of and then some old towels in the bottom.

Good luck finding the kittens homes

Wording was very wrong. We do have very young members on here that things like that can be very very upsetting. Mind you it can upset adults to.

I don't know much about cats. So I could not be much help. I would try to contact some rescues they may be able to get you some additional help.

I apologize if I offended you in any way. I just wanted to let you know that thereare options for the kitties....even if a rescue is 3 hours away. Kitty lovers will come together to help cats....just like us bunny lovers will come together to help bunnies :).

You could also join a cat forum and ask for help there. Many times there will be cat rescue people on the forum that will be able to get you help with placing the kittens.

Craigslist is a good idea. You could try that.

Can you bring them in until homes are found for them? That's what I'd do. Just a suggestion though;).

It's really unfortunate that the shelters are overpopulated, but thanksto irresponsible pet owners. We have them here as well, I see loose cats too. It's sad.

Keep us updated!:D

Do you have a garage or barn or somewhere safe they could stay for now? We took in baby kittens last year, kept them until they were of age to be adopted, and then put out a sign at the end of our driveway. We found great homes for all 4 cats in two days!
