This is for the over 50 generation:[size=

[color=#000000]I thought about the 30 year business I ran with 1800 employees, all without a Blackberry that played music, took videos, pictures and communicated with Facebook and Twitter.

I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their spouses, 13 grandkids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space.

That was before one of my grandkids hooked me up for Tweeter, Tweetree, Twhirl, Twitterfon, Tweetie and Twittererific Tweetdeck, Twitpix and something that sends every message to my cell phone and every other program within the texting world.

My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything except the bowel movements of the entire next generation. I am not ready to live like this. I keep my cell phone in the garage in my golf bag.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a box under my tool bench with the Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I drive. I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble talking to my wife as everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. Seems I have to take my hearing aid out to use it, and I got a little loud.

I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside was the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would sarcastically say, "Re-calc-ul-ating". You would think that she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then when I would make a right turn instead, it was not good.

When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross streets and while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves me.

To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn how to use the cordless phones in our house. We have had them for 4 years, but I still haven't figured out how I can lose three phones all at once and have run around digging under chair cushions and checking bathrooms and the dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings.

The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the grocery store. You would think they could settle on something themselves but this sudden "Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just knocks me for a loop. I bought some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused, but I never remember to take them in with me.

Now I toss it back to them. When they ask me, "Paper or Plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual." Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blank look.

I was recently asked if I tweet. I answered, No, but I do toot a lot."

I know some of you are not over 50; I sent it to you to allow you to forward it to those who are.

Not trying to sound funny I am only 21 but you sound like my grandmother/Big mamma she still has the old dial phone and still buys maps when we are in the car with her we have to turns our phones off no GPS.

She alway say back in the day all the fun was getting lost.

I can say it is nice to go spend a week with her still cause she makes us give her all our electronics she has no electricity it really back to basic the kids remember playing outside and us parents are more involved instead of using the tv as a baby sitter yes I do it sometimes.

I can not imagine living like that for ever but its nice to porch sit make food from complete scratch and get back with family if I could I would move my family into big mammas house.

OH Bill so true.

I get so frustrated some time with all these stupid gadgets. Unfortunately they are here to stay. I do not and never will have Twitter. I have Skype and do like that. I can talk to my sister for nothing and see her too. I spoke with my niece quite a few time over the past 3 months while she was in South Africa working on her Doctorate (yes she's the smart one of the family).

I have a GPS which more than once has given me the wrong directions, and believe me if you know me I have NO sense of direction.

Any ways thanks for sharing.

Susan:)

ps

How many bunnies do you have?

Bill - I'm 49...for about...34 or so more days....but I so loved this.

I hate twitter (although I love facebook) - I rarely text.,..but when I do - watch out as we'll have a conversation....and GPS?

Ha...I can get lost quite easily on my own...don't need the GPS to confuse me in the middle of driving.

pretty funny, especially to toot part. My phone is just a phone. I do have a GPS but always check mapquest first as the Miss Directions sometimes gets things wrong or wants to send you the long way. This is sort of like that poem about "the Golden Years".

I love both of these comments! My Grandfather passed away this Monday but I know had I read this to him he would have loved those two comments too. As I head out to the Wake I am so glad I read this first. You made my day. Thank you.

I disable text and internet on my phone. It only makes and receives calls now. I don't tweet, my only "social networking" is facebook with my bunny friends (I refuse to friend my family). I do love my GPS. It's so much easier than trying to read the printout from Mapquest while I'm driving. Yes, I'm 51 years old.

My mom just got her first cell phone. My sister put her on her plan and mom is still trying to figure it out.

Susan I dont have a bunny and its been a long time since I did but I come here because I like people who like bunnies.I also like looking at their pictures.

You know Im only 21 and I completely understand how you feel, I refuse to go anywhere near anything that starts with "Twit", so no twitter for me. I only use my "Smartphone" to make and recieve calls and texts, havent even figured out how to use all of the options on it (next time Im going with a normal phone, this one makes me feel unintelligent, lol) I dont see the use in a GPS for me, don't need it to confuse me any more than I already am, lol.

I agree with the world seeming to get more complex every day, and you feel like your always a few steps behind everyone. "Did you hear about the new ___?" "No, Im not superglued to a piece of technology like everyone else." Oh well, life goes on :)
