we had two bunnies for about 13 years who passedaway last year, the kids were devastated so we got 2 more, and a newcage that looked really great with a box on the outside end so theycould play in it, unfortunately, the top to that box didn't have a lockon it and one of the babies poked his head thru and the top shut on hisneck, needless to say it wasn't a good day....but now we have had onlythe one bun, chocolate for about 22 weeks and are thinking aboutgetting another (same sex of course) but i worry that they might notget along because chocolate has been by himself for about 14 weeks, doyou think i should just go for it and get another, i wish the pet storewould give you a trial run,(alot good that would do, i'd end up withall the bunnies the store had to offer) any thoughts?

Actually, I think the best match for a male rabbit is aspayed female rabbit...there is a high risk that two males willfight....especially if they weren't raised together...

As I've learned and others have learned....even littermates will fight frequently once their hormones kick in.

I agree with VNess - get a female rabbit and get her spayed to avoid cancer.

Like everyone said, a male/female pair is much easier bond.

However, I do have two males and a female who all share the same cage so it can be done, it's just a lot more work.

I have 4 rabbits, 2 male and 2 female uncaged andall get along great so far. 3 of the 4 are fixed ( the 4th istoo young). I think a lot has to do with how dominant of apersonality they have, my first rabbit (since deceased) was extremelydominant and got violent with other rabbits, but even with her I wasable to bond them it just took longer and had to be supervised closely.

well i guess i will look into all the options, spaying etc....but i think i have to have another bunny...this one isjust sooo lovable, and i really miss the others that have gone to theirrest....you know if someone told me 20 years ago that i would havebunnies, i would have thought they were nuts, but you get soo attachedto them so easily, last trip to the pet store almost got me guinea pigstoo, (got to stay out of those stores....) thanks toall,,,,,,cyndi

will look into all the options today, thank you very much for all your help,

You might also try to find a house rabbit societyor check out the humane society in your area. They're morelikely to let you have a trial period with you other bun to see if theyget along. Our HRS sponsors buny "dates" to find potentialmatches. Also, many of the rabbits from rescues will alreadybe spayed.

its best to get a female rabbit for your male. from what ive seen, females are easiest to get along with compared with 2 males.

thank you, never heard of bunnie dates...or houserabbit soc, guess i'll have to look for a web site, impressed with thatone!!!! thanks

Jeez, I have no idea what you mean about wanting more than one rabbit! ;)

Chompers was a rescue rabbit I was only supposed to care for until wefound a permanent home for him. Well, that lasted as long as the carride home before I knew I was going to keep him. I had no intention ofhaving a rabbit either and my mom had to talk me into it for two weeksbefore I agreed to go get him from the horrible situation he was in.

Then I needed a bond mate for him. By then, I had gotten married andmoved to Canada. My hubby is an animal lover too. We decided on Abby, ablack mixed breed doe. It was love at first sight.

Then when we moved here, I fell in love with Valuran, who was a petstore rabbit no one wanted. He was literally skin and bones when I gothim. Now he's a beefcake but is very lovable to me. Took a long timefor him to come around, but it was well worth the effort.
