I currently work at Clarks on Sundays. I also work Thursday nights, which is late night shopping, and everywhere in town stays open until 8pm. I work 4.30-8.

They just rang up to say they have had to cut my hours. They won't be open on Thursdays anymore due to the recession, they aren't making enough money and cutting this seems the best option.

I just feel physically sick. I can barely afford life at the moment anyway. I don't really have to pay for petrol properly yet as I haven't passed my test so I don't drive loads. However what with it being my birthday recently I'm now legal, and will be going out a lot more than before. Now I won't be able to afford to do that.

I'm just feeling really upset. I know its not their fault but for me this is going to be £70 a month less.

I'm now going to have to look for a second job. I'm considering restaurant work (I said I never wanted to work in a restaurant, but I have little choice) and the supermarkets in town. My current job is in the next town and I have to drive/get public transport, so I need to find something in my town I can get to easily after school.

I just feel like I'm running out of time. I have so little time for work, and this is my final year so life is tough. Now I'm going to have even less time.

:tears2:

Is Clarks a grocery or what? 8 pm is late night shopping?

Oh man! Here, our groceries stay open most 24 hours. The department/mall stores stay open til 9 or 10 pm during the week and 10 or 11 on weekends.....

Jobs are tough right now. I worry daily about my hubby's hours and trying to pay off bills.

Clarks is a shoe shop. Its like the biggest/most famous shoe shop in the country.

We are open 9 - 5.30, but on Thursdays the shopping centre we are in stays open until 8 pm for late night shopping. Well we don't get many customers TBH so they are just gonna close until 5.30 pm like the rest of the week.

Supermarkets generally stay open until 10 pm, for the small in-town ones. The ones out of town are usually 24 hour, or we have little mini grocery store type ones that stay open until about midnight.

Ugh, sorry about this. :( I work in a grocery shop, it's not too bad, very dull, but easy work. I'd rather would in a big supermarket though, they seem to treat you better from what my friends say. Do you get EMA? I know it isn't much but the extra £30 a week is a big help to me.

Oh ok! I think we actually had a Clark's shoes at one time. Most of our shoe stores are department stores now. We have a few like UGG stores...... things like that.

Yeah I get the £30 which is lucky, although that goes on lunch and art materials mainly. At least thats something!

CV writing is boring. I'll be down the town tomorrow job hunting I think...

Yeah mine mostly seems to go on lunch and books too, but I'd have to use work money otherwise, so it's good. Good luck with the job hunt! :D

Thanks! I'm going to apply/take a CV into:

Sainsburys
Waitrose
Pizza Express
ASK
Wetherspoons
Boots
Superdrug
Blockbuster

I don't want to work outside of my town really. My current job is in the next town, I'm going to apply for afternoon/evening shifts after school so I can go straight from school. I'm steering clear of most shops seeing as retail is the worst hit by the recession. I'm thinking places that stay open later are best because then I'm more likely to get a decent shift. If I work somewhere that closes at 5.30 I can only start at 3.30, and it seems kinda pointless.
