Once again, there was no triple crown winner. Big Brown didn't have it today and I'm waiting to hear if he's ok. He's such a beautiful horse... I really hoped he would do it.

I was literally shocked Big Brown did not win.

From what I read, there was nothing physically wrong with him.. he just didn't have it in him. The owner is rationalizing that the track was too deep and he just didn't like it.

I am still upset over Eight Belles..

I heard that too but his foot had an abscess and they had to take him off the steroids a couple of weeks ago. I think that made him less energetic.... I just don't know. Regardless - I love that horse!

I also can hardly think of Eight Belles - it makes me so sad cause she was just precious.

There's been so many strange things in horseracing recently....and Eight Belles just broke my heart. I was so glad that Big Brown's jockey realized that he didn't have the horse, and let him go instead of trying to force him to continue. He truly loves that horse, and did his best to take care of him. I think that in the end, the change in the levels of steroids in Big Brown's system caused the problem, coupled with the abscess. He sure is a beauty of a horse, though.

I actually think that Big Brown had a crack on his hoof. That is what my 4h leader and one of my co-eh members said.

I sure wouldn't want to run then! I know the commentators said that lots of horses run with that issue, but they also remarked about how smart Big Brown is.....smart enough to know that running ain't whatcha wanna do with a crack in your hoof!!! Go Brown!!!! No matter how smart we humans think we are.....they're smarter!

He has a small, hairline crack that was patched with acrylic patching. It shouldn't have made much difference.
