Okay first off I would like to say hey, and that all suggestions are open! I am looking for a cage for my full-grown Rex Rabbit. He is a male and is currently living in a cage he had when he was growing. I have found one style that I like from PetCo. I do not want a mesh flooring and would like the outside plastic to be high. Other than that any cage would work!
Do you know where I could Find a cage like this?

(Here is the link to the cage I like. Any other suggestions?)

In my opinion, that doesnt seem large enough. If you use the cage + an xpen as his "living area" then it might be sufficient. Alternatively, you can build a nic cage and line the base with raised corpolast or build a wooden lining as high as you like.

Okay I found another one that is exactly like that but is like 15" bigger. I would also be taking out the shelf. Do you think that maybe that one would work? Or no?

Thanks!
Ashley

Does he have quite a bit of outside time? If so then it's probably ok. I would keep the shelf though as it both provides him a place to sneak under if he wants, and something to jump on to have vertical exercise.

Is he an inside bunny now? I thought before you said he lived outside? If he's an inside bunny and gets lots of time out I'd say then that'd be ok. Otherwise I'd got for something bigger. Especially for a full grown rex. The bigger one you mentioned might be good.

Also, you said you don't want a mesh floor. My experience with floors like this is that the bunny can't get good traction and slips around-plus bedding over time gets expensive as you have to keep replacing it. Also, just a thought- many bunnies seem to be allergic to many types of bedding. My bunny Ripley has been allergic to all the ones I've tried. I personally would go with mesh flooring with something over it to keep feet from becoming sore.

Something over mesh is still mesh IMO, unless its something thick and formed like those foam puzzle mats or the like.

I use an xpen for each of my girls, they live on tile and are perfectly happy. They both also have petbeds, and free roam of most of the house during the day.

Rabbits should have at least 4x4sqft of living space, plus 2-4 hours out daily to run.

Have you thought about using the largest dog crate you can find? you can get plexi-glass cut to size and have holes drilled in for around the sided to hold in the bedding so you can decide if you want it to go up four inches or six inches. Use zip ties to attach the plexi-glass to the sidesthrew the holes you hace drilled in. (these are also available on ebay I think as urine guards)
