Despite living right in Hobbit town, I haven't seen it, nor do I plan too. lol. I'm booored with hearing so much about it.

Although I'm still gutted I was too busy with study to try for an extra. My tutor got to be a hobbit though!

It was awesome! I'm not the biggest fan of 3D but I felt like I wanted to see it just once in that format. That was enough. If I go again I'll choose 2D this time. PJ does a great job of developing the characters and I am pleased with his choice of actors. The 48 frames per second definitely takes some getting used to though.
The worst thing about it? Waiting for the next 2 movies to come out :expressionless

The next two movies? Is it only part one?? I thought it would be the whole thing. I'm waiting for my lady to get home from her three month trip next week before we see it, but I'm quite concerned that it won't be close to the book. Does it do the book justice? Be honest...I never like to see movies of books that I love, but I'm kinda tempted to see this one.

Also, trying to hold my breath until Les Mis comes out...I don't really ever go to the movies, but for these, I want to!

Definitely saw The Hobbit at a midnight showing. Also was dressed in a home made Smaug the dragon costume. I was waaay into the Lord of the Rings trilogy back when those were coming out, so I was super excited.

I haven't read The Hobbit in its entirety in several years. I meant to before seeing the movie, but didn't quite reach that goal, haha. From what I recall, it was pretty true to the book. I was a little iffy on PJ's decision to divide the book into three separate movies, mostly because I'm usually against people doing that sort of thing because they probably just want to milk it, but there was so much action in this first installment, I'm glad he didn't stuff the whole book into one film.

Yea, this is part 1 of 3. From what I understand PJ has taken the book and added in material from other Tolkien books. I guess it remains to be seen how faithfully he sticks to it. But that's gonna take another 2 years :panic:

I went and saw it just an hour ago, I ADORED it. I thought it started off really slow and was a bit bored by it at first but it turned out to be a fantastic movie.

I was a touch hesitant about it because I never cared for Bilbo's character in the original LotR films, but he's pretty cool in these movies, especially in the last fight of the film.

Still, the Riddles in the Dark portion was easily the best, I just love Gollum as a character and he really shone here!

Bunny sled was awesome!

I saw it on Friday. I was a great movie, but was not true to the book. I did like some of the added stuff, but the orcs just bugged me. Radagast was pretty awesome and the bunnies were cool.

I know that the first 6 chapters that this first movie cover and kind of the less exciting ones, so hopefully the next 2 movies will be awesome. Can't wait to see more of Smaug. Still not sure about it being 3 movies, but will have to wait on that to see how they turn out.

Well for all those hesitant on it being three movies, the Hobbit book mostly takes place within Biblo's viewpoint. You can see a little expansion in this movie where it shows Gandalf in a meeting with the White Council and from what I read Gandalfs perspective will increase. Also, the battle of five armies was covered only as a mention, so actually seeing it will be awesome. Especially when Galadrial unleashed her might and shows why she's one of the most powerful beings of Middle Earth. I so hope that scene is covered and done well to finally let a woman shine in these movies. Though Eowyn was pretty spectacular.

Just need to mention seeing Radagast's rabbit thump to warn him about impending danger was damn cool.

Ahhh now I'm hesitant! You say it's not close to the book. I'm a purist with my movies. I never saw the LOTR movies because I didn't want to spoil my perceptions of the book. So maybe I won't see it...or maybe I'll make my geek of a roommate see it first and tell me if it will piss me off. :)
It'll probably depend on if my lady finds it interesting to see or thinks it looks boring (she's never read the books, so...)...

Still holding my breath for Les Mis though....wasn't big on the book for that, but I love, love, love the musical, so I'm gonna drag my partner to see it (I can hear her now: "It's a musical! Why would I go see a musical?! I don't like musicals!")....

Keep in mind that I have no real attachment to the book, I only read some of it before seeing the movie and I read a bit more of it last night. I honestly gotta say that I actually prefer the stuff that was added, I think it added a lot to the characters and the storyline.

But again, I didn't have any kind of attachment to the main storyline. I know what it's like to be upset when things from the book are changed for the big screen (Looking at you Eragon, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Hunger Games, etc.)

I read the book in grade 8... So.... I knew the book was about a Hobbit lol

The rabbit sleigh and thump was fantastic, I glanced over at my bf and we just smiled, we shared that moment with the rabbits.

I liked the movie in Imax 3D (I don't trust this new-spangled HFR ).. I thought it was a bit long without an intermission. And the new seats in the theatre let you recline a bit so you can't move your legs too much lest you bump the head of the person in front of you... It got extremely uncomfortable after a while.

I cannot wait until the next one!!
