So I have to make a run for bunnies for our 4H'ers, so I was inquiring how a particular bunny was doing, it was a 4H'er I gave him to. He was brother to Rocky, Half brother to Rico. He's dead. He prolly got riled up in his cage, and injured his spine, and was paralyzed from mid torso down, and had to be put down.

So the guy we get our bunnies from, got 6 of my original litter that Rocky came out of. He said they are all beautiful and large and black eared. Which he is prolly full of it, because the rest of us have had nothing but problems out of that line. He told me he would GIVE me back one of my bucks.

Do I want it? My gut is telling me no. Whereas I enjoy my other bunnies, I look at it as babysitting this one till something inevitably goes wrong. Every bit of me is screaming NO!

Anybody wanna chime in?

There is no right nor wrong, just do what you think is best. The fact you are doubting getting one though tells you maybe you already know the answer.

Yeah, agreed. That was my thought exactly.

Your heart is already telling you the answer, I think.

I dont know the history behind this post, but *if* the rabbits he has are well indeed, maybe some checking into food/feeding/watering etc etc would be beneficial just in case anything can be found to have helped the ones he has.

The one who was lost with a broken back - that doesnt really sound like a "typical" run of bad luck if you're having problems genetic-wise.

:dunno

It just seems that while the rest of us can have literally tons of other bunnies, who live long healthy lives, this particular line seems to be plagued with health issues, infections, preemie death, and in general bad luck. I am not saying the broken back is genetic, im saying, just another in a long list of bad luck with this line.

I think the whole line is jinxed..

:( I can understand that. I've had a terrible year with my rabbits and actually backed out of getting basically my *dream rabbit* due to all of the trouble I've gone through.

Sometimes you do have to wonder about things, especially when you go through one obstical after another, after another...

One thought: Maybe the line is weaker physically in general, thus making them more susceptable to things affecting them harder than they would affect other buns?

Aside from the broken back, if you think that the line has a damaged gene, is it worth bringing a bun like that into your home? You are risking lots of vets bills and losing a rabbit very early. You have to decide whether or not it is worth it.
