There should be a site that actually list these out, I know there is.

LMBO is Laughing My Butt Off :p.

Edit: I just googled text abbreviations and a ton of sites came up:D.

I couldn't text to save my life:shock:.

It's actually a running joke among my friends and family. I love gadgets and toying around on the computer, but I can barely operate my cell phone:baghead

I don't know how I know this stuff:shock:.

Recall that annoying commercial about the cell phones with the mom and daugther? That was so annoying you had it embedded in your head:shock:. Hee, but that is how I remembered and got it:?.

I have a text pad on my cell phone :), but I disabled texting because I kept going over....okay...way over....and it was getting expensive!

2 = Two.
B4 = Before.
R = Are.
Bi = Bye.
G2G = Got to go.
BRB = Be right back.
LOL = Laugh out loud.
LMAO = Laugh my --- off.
ROFL = Roll on the floor laughing.
OMG = Oh my Gosh/---.
Sup = What's Up.
Hru = How are you?
Ily = I love you.
W8 = Wait.
C = See.
Cu l8ter = See you later.
H8 = Hate.
BFFL = Best Friend For Life.
@ = At.

Some are pretty obvious, and, though I despise chatspeak with a passion, I know of quite a lot. I know of quite a few more, but I don't think that they are suitable to be posted on this forum, in case I offend someone. Lmao is like Lmbo, in case you couldn't figure out what the "A" stood for.

Rachel.

When I'm on the computer, on forums or messengers I use proper language :), but I never do when I'm texting...I seem to completely forget about vowels most of the time...;)

He he. I said "LOL" to my teacher once. He sort of just stared at me blankly, and so I ran. :) Ha ha.

This is the sort of message I usually get on MSN or Text.

"hi rach. sup. wht r u doin on sat. wan 2 go 2 da movies. tht was so fnny 2day. see u at skl tomoz. bi."

Grr. Very annoying.

Rachel.

One I tend to use (Bad girl! :p ) is 'WTF' (What the foosk ((My abbriviation for f**K)) )
There's also one that tends to confuse people.... Lawl. It's the phonetic spelling of LOL, and people use that sometimes.

Maybe I'm just an old fart, but I just don't get the whole idea of text messaging. If you want to say something to someone, why not just call them and use your actual voice?

It's huge with teenagers, huge. Also with early twenties people, don't ask me why:?.

Well, I don't have text messaging on my phone (And wouldn't use it if I did) but the same kinda speak is used with internet instant messaging, and I was going by that ;) (It was first invented there, anyway)
As far as convinience.... doesn't cost me anything but my normal internet fee to chat online, haha :p

Well, I agree with you to some point. If you are just going to have a conversation, then just call them and talk. But if, for example, you knew someone was in class or in a meeting, but you wouldn't be able to wait until after it was over, they can read the text later. And if you text someone some information, they don't have to worry about forgetting it, since it is written on your phone.

Also, with text, it can be cheaper. For example, when you are on the phone, especially with your friends, you tend to say things that are unnessescary just to fill in time. For example, the answer to this question over the phone and over text can be different.

What are you doing over the weekend?
Phone: Uhm ... I'm not too sure. Hold on a second while I check with my parents. *Pause* Um, I think I might be going to the movies. Why? What are you doing?
Text: I might be going to the movies. You?

So, overall, the phone conversation may take five minutes to complete, whereas the text is just 25c quickly, after you know all the details.

Anyway, back on topic ...

Rachel.

I agree with Mikoli...I text my friends at any time, especially when i am on the run and i know they prob arent in front of the computer....OR...if I am in the middle of something and want to let them know something but dont have time for a phone conversation. I feel rude just calling to ask a question and then not asking how the family is doing, blah blah blah. Texting makes it quick and easy to say hi or whatever and not have to be stuck on the phone.....
