I wanted my little fluffykins to have more room to hop about while we work on building him his new cage (A 4 story tall really long cage) so I created a simple courtyard kind of thing so I dont have to worry about him chewing everything in my room. The major drawback would obviously be that its a real pain in the neck to clean, should probably lay something down over the carpet.

Tarps or plastic shower curtains make a good cheap waterproof floor covering, as long as rabbits don't chew too much at them. And easy to wipe and clean up messes. Also a bigger rectangular cat litter box will usually help to contain the mess. You can even put the hay in there in a corner or a hay rack above.
