My 17 year old son Anthony...just got his driver's license.....sooooo for the last couple weeks,i have been teaching him to drive ,he's not that bad of a driver but i will admit i get nervous... a little bit....ok..a lot lol

So when we go out now..it's.. 'mum..i'll drive'!

So far he's only got a bit to close to the gutter..and kinda went up it lol....i had to giggle at that because there were cars behind us and i could just imagine what they were saying when they seen him go up the gutter 'typical bloody learner' just typical languagefor an aussie lol

Oh we have had some funny moments though...but when we finally arrive home..i cross my chest and say thankyou for letting me arrive home safe and sound hehe!

I'm 34 years old...i think i've justaged a few more years

i wish my son was still a baby!! :big wink:

:laugh:Cheryl, I can just imagine! I will be starting driving soon so am very nervous!:?Plus my dad wants me driving by Christmas - which may be a bit hard as my birthday is only on the 16th!:p

Good luck to your son with his driving!:highfive:

woop I can start my driving lessons from the 28th of December, so far my dads been letting me change gear when he's driving, he said its good to start learning now because then i can focus what ill be doing on the road:craziness

He worries too much, no wonder he's going bald lol, ill be fine... I think

WOw you have to get a permit and then learn to drive here, then they have to be tested to get their license!

Luke got his license this past summer and I am very cautious about where he can drive and when. He's a good driver but needs to learn to make decisions quicker when he's on the road.

cheryl, if you all would drive on the correct side of the car it might help!!! :big wink:

husband is teaching my daughter to drive... very scarey... I won't ride with her driving..lol... she isn't a bad driver i am just chicken...

I'm probably going to get my learner's permit in a couple of weeks... my parents can come comiserate with you, Cheryl... lol :p

Sorry Bo..i should correct myself...Anthony just got his learner's permit

He failed the computer test 3 times..but passed on his 4th go.

The rules have changed by law herenow..and the child has to be 17 now and not 16,First they have to passthe computer test and then if they passthey have to do 50 hours of learning to drive with a qualified driver(which is me)and up to 6 months before they are able to get tested professionally..so Anthony has a fair way to go yet.

I'm going to have grey hair by the time he passes lol

Goodluck to all you guys going for your test...or should i say good luck to your parents ;)

I have a good friend in New South Wales. He came to visit a few years ago and it was SO funny to me. He kept trying to get into the driver's side of the car when we'd go someplace. You should have seen when he rented a car and actually drove! Too funny!

Lol. When I was little I was waiting for my dad to get out of work and I was with my brother and hes like, you want to drive?. I sat on his lap becuase I was wayyy to short. He was pushing the peddles while i steerd but his cell phone rang and he wasent paying attention and i backed up into a tree :O. Good thing the parking lot was empty

I've had my license for 6 months, but I had my permit for a year first. I think I'm a relatively good driver, for a 17 year old, but my parents still won't let me drive without them in the car, and it looks like I won't be getting a car until I "need one" aka after I'm done with graduate school

I hate driving with my parents in the car. I couldn't wait to get my license just so I could be rid of them! ;)

I only got my license this past summer (3 years after I could have had it, I had my learner's permit for 5 years, LOL, I was never big into wanting to drive) and now I spend about an hour and a half every day commuting to and from school. I don't think I was ever a bad driver, but the first few days of driving in rush hour (city driving was something I dreaded) and the first few days of driving on icy roads were nerve wracking!

I honestly think parents make it worse than it has to be, at least that's my experience. I refused to drive with my dad after the first week of practicing with him because he was always raising his voice and had his hand on the E-brake which just made me hate driving more.

Wow!

Here, when you have your permit, you have to get 50 behind-the-wheel hours, with an adult, before you can get your liscense!

Yes you have to here as well...it's 50 hours with an adult..plus 6 months..you cannot go for a driving test until the 6 months is up.after that time..you can get tested by a professional driver..he's the one who gives the pass or the fail...then if you pass you go onto your P plates(probation) you have to leave the P plates on your car for 6 months..then you can get your full license

You sound like my mother

With the exception that I am a bad driver, I almost killed her a couple times. :?

That's basically the process we go through as well. You can't even drive with your parents with your permit unitl you've had your first lesson with a driving instructor though.
In California though, once you get your licence, for a year or until you're 18 you can't drive people under 21 without someone 25 or older in the car unless it's an ememrgency, you're going to or from school or they're your sibling. We also have a driving curfew. Minors can't talk or text on a cell phone without a hands free device or use a MP3 player and in July that will apply to all California drivers.
They're talking about making you wait until you're 18 to get your license at all.

We have a law here now where you are not allowed to use your mobile phone while driving...if you have a hands free device that's ok,but if you are caught using your mobile while driving then you will get slapped with a fine.

I've been enjoying teaching Anthony to drive, even though i do get nervous and i'm always glad to be home lol....but i missed out on my parents teaching me....my mum doesn't drive...and my mum and dad got divorced when i was 13...so my childrens father taught me when i was 19...actually it was amazing that he even let me drive.
