I'm needing to Tatt my Mini Lops Doe for AZ convention, but I can't bring myself to do it. I hate giving Tattoos especially with my clamp. Ouch, right? Does anyone have any recomendations on how to keep the rabbit as calm as possible and how to Prevent unnecessary pain for them?

I honestly have never give tattoos however I have saw them done with the clamp. The poor baby freaked but did not squeel, luckly. My friend a few months back got one of the new hand held pen ones and she said it was so easy, she practiced on bananas. She said the rabbits never make a move when she uses it but with the old clamps well... you know :cry2

Has anyone tried using origel? I used it on my ears when I got them pierced and it worked pretty good, one out of thefour I did not feel AT ALL!

Well, she's gotta be tattooed if I'm gonna show her. Unless someone is giving them in the showroom, which they sometimes do. I've given two with the clamp, and that's enough- I need a pen but I can't afford it right now.

What is origel? If I am thinking correctly, it probably wouldn't be safe for them- Chemicals and what not.

Baby Origel should be ok. I do not know exactly what is in it so I will not say 100% but I would think if it is ok to go in a baby's mouth the outside ear of a rabbit wouldn't hurt? It it is a numbing gel stuff. You know the stuff you put on your teeth. It numbed my ears pretty good. Get someone else's opinion on it before trying but I would think it would help at least till it starts getting hot and swelling.

This is discuraged for piercings unless you don't care about simatry however ice helps too. That is unless the bunny keeps shaking it's head. I honestly do not know any breeders that do anything for pain for their bunnies. I hate the thought myself but what can you do?:X

You can ice up their ear. Or you could find someone that is going to be at the show who will have a Bat-Tat or an electric tattoo.....those don't hurt.

I find that icing the ear works well. I place an ice cube on the outside of the ear for a couple minutes, and use a RabbiTatt. The rabbit usually doesn't even notice what I'm doing, except for the hum in their ear... I recently got a 5 point needle and tip, and find that it works better than the 3 point. You don't have to go over it so many times to make a good line.

Yeah, practice on a banana. A couple of banana's! Get a feel for the electric tattoo pen, before going near the rabbit.

You can try contacting other breeders in the area to see if they will have their pen with them at the show. The pen can literally be used right before they go on the table. (I did 16 rabbits last weekend at the show... 3 of them right before they were shown!)

Beat me to it.

If you worry about upsetting your buns the tattoo guns are the best way to go. I love them. You never have to take a flashlight to my rabbit's ears the number is legible and easy to read.

Only thing is that these guns are expensive.(Got mine for $99) But some people will bring theirs to shows and do tats for a small fee. Ask around to see if anyone going is planning on doing this.

Yes, I was going to suggest that. Because at the shows I've been there has been someone with a pen and they have like a little stand for people to come up and ask them to do it, and you could just give them a couple bucks to tattoo your rabbit(s).

And I agree, I hate it when they use the clamp to tattoo rabbits ears. :(It looks very painful, but the pens are probably the ones I would use.
