How old do the kits have to be before they are tattoo'ed? I was thinking about doing it at 6-8 weeks. Is this too soon? When doyou do it?

Thanks
Rachel

I did my babies at around 4mths. They were getting to difficult to tell apart so I just had to tattoo them. Plus shows were coming up and they needed it

I tattoo mine when they are about 7 weeks (if im keeping them) but can be done allot earlier, and use a sharpie for my u/7 weeks.

I do mine between 6 and 8 weeks old depending on there ear size cause my polishs ears are super small still by 6 weeks old but the mini rex will get theres by 6 weeks for sure...........Toby

Alice, in the States for show rabbits they tatoo their rabbits ears for identification..the breeder can do their own. I believe in Europe they have to be done at certain clubs? In the UK we ring ours. I have seen imports in the UK where the tatooing is far too deep and shows right through the other side (outside) of the ear.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong please!

My rabbit council follows the same standards as th BRC, in New Zealand when we ring ours the rabbit becomes registered, we can either ring or tattoo ours for showing, most the rabbits I have seen at shows are tattooed I heard that the ring can causeto much trouble, in fact I had to clip the ring of my registered show buck last week as he grow a abscess under it and it was diging into his skin, he is now tattooed.

Thank you, I don't plan on showing as my boys are both 'done' and my girl as I like to call her is an itsa bitsa rabbit. made of bits-a this and bits-a that! (",)

Just wanted to know for future reference, as 1st thing that went through my mind was actual tatoos like a human, but knew that couldn't be the case.

As ever RO pulls through and answers the question.
