Tattoo pens

Hi, I have a tattoo pen for my rabbits to tattoo their pedigree number in the left ear but my question is how often should I change the needle? My kit came with three needles. Thanks

It depends on how often you tattoo and how well you clean your pen between uses. I'd like to change the needle about once every six months; I don't tattoo very often though (as I don't produce too many kits, most the tattoos I do are for registrations). If it starts feeling dull - like you have to go back over the tattoos for them to work, or the tattoos aren't sticking (which can be because of other reasons as well, such as old ink)- then it's time to replace the needle.
