My New Zealand has last all the hair on her tail. It's a bit scabby and raw. She also has been periodically eating less. She's always been sensitive to changes and we just moved her twice in the last couple of months. Is the tail thing something I should be worried about? Thanks!

It could possibly be mites, but it doesn't normally start at the tail. You should probably get a vet to look at it and possibly take a skin scraping.

eating less with abnormal hair loss... hmm.. if this is a pet rabbit and you have a decent vet AND you don't know what to look for... get her checked out.

if she's not a pet rabbit, but more of a "part of your working herd" animal I'd dust her with diatomaceous earth (NOT pool grade), throw some probiotics into her and see if that helps. I'd also be looking for a fungal infection, thoroughly check her vent, her nose, her front and back legs, checking her dewlap, and giving her coat a good going over to ensure there is not hair loss or mites happening. I would run through ALL other options and treatment methods then before getting her checked out. (one can't bring EVERY animal to the vet if you have a herd).

but if she's your only pet... bring her in. I suspect a fungal infection from what you've said.

Lack of appetite means there is likely something else going on, either causing her pain or significant discomfort. Is it possible she is barbering her tail herself? If she is, it's possible she is doing this due to pain somewhere in that area. Do you see any hair loss, or flaky irritated skin anywhere else on her body? Have you noticed any other changes in behavior or issues with her? Any changes in her poop or urine? How old is your bun and does she have any difficulty hopping around?
