Well yesterday I went to my vet to pick up a bag of hay for my bunners and the receptionist asked what food I use. I told her that we use Burgess super rabbit excel food. She said that on Thursday there was a rep go in to explain about a different type of food for bunnies that doesn't require them to eat as much hay as they normally would. This was the Science Selective Range for Rabbits. The receptionist also said that meat traces were found in the Burgess super rabbit food.

I just wondered if anyone has heard this or is it true?

And also if anyone uses the food and finds that there bunnies don't need as much hay?

Hey Clare

I know some people who feed Science Selective and if their bunny struggled with excess cecals with the supa burgess excel, then they didn't with the Science Selective.

Personally I would be warey of feeding less hay. Yes, the fibre count may be higher but that doesn't mean that they should eat less hay, although I know that with a bunny who struggles to eat hay, the higher the fibre content the better.

I would also remember that this lady is paid to sell the product, not necessarily speak the strict truth or have an understanding of rabbits and their guts.

I have recently looked at the burgess ingredients and was surprised to find soya something on there, however my buns all seem to be pretty healthy on it.

If you wanted to switch to SS then the only place you can buy it in our area is Seapets. Last May I had to hunt down a bag to send to another member of this forum and that was the only place they sold it.
