So for the preparation of my new bunny, I'm looking into the best way to provide water. Do you use a water bottle or a heavy bowl? I'm just afraid bunny will knock the whole bowl over when he gets excited but it seems like the easier way for both him and myself.

hi there Kathy :)i use a water bottle beacouse the rabbits cant tipthe bolwover making themand there bedding wet . but both ways are ok . what bunny are you getting?

Hi Kathy, we have 4 bunnies and we use bowls for all of them. They are real heavy bowls. We have never had a problem with any of them being spilt.

Look forward to seeing pictures of your new arrival.

I use bowls for my buns, but you have to change the water everyday and get the heaviest bowl you can (something ceramic). Shouldn't have too much trouble with tipping.

I use bowls. Mocha was so small as a baby that she couldn't make water bottles work well, and then she'd get frustrated and give up. My other three drank from water bottles before I got them, but they drink much more (and much more happily) from bowls.

You do have to clean bowls at least once a day, but I don't mind. They're actually much easier to keep clean than water bottles. You never really can get the spout compeletely clean.

I use ceramic crocks, as I couldn't get Raph to accept a water bottle (which is a pain, as his ears fall into the water all the time). But I have two different kinds of dishes for him; one is a heavy-duty ceramic water crock, as he tends to toss his dishes...and the other is one of these:

It mounts on the side of any wire cage and is wonderful...I can put it high enough so Raph's ears don't fall into the water (at least most of the time), and it comes off easily - just twist the bowl - for cleaning and/or refilling. You can get them at any PetSmart, I believe. AND he can't toss it around! LOL

I used to use water bottles as they are much less messy than bowls but after giving my buns a bowl to drink from when it was really hot they've stopped drinking from their bottles and only drink from their bowl. They have stopped tipping it over since they started drinking from it though so at least their hutch stays dry!;)

.....bottles for all!

I got tired of cleaning and taking toys out of the bowl. And it seemed to get slimy quickly.

And if there's a bowl.....Brindle automatically goes over and stands in it. Still haven't figured out why. Maybe she thinks it's a finger(paw)bowl?

It also makes it easier to monitor their water intake and not wonder if they tipped the bowl or drank it all.

You know, I've always used bottles, but I think I may switch.Bottles are hard to clean.

I use lock-crocks (pictured above) for food and I love them. I think I will get more of those and put them in.

I clean the bottles when the buns finish them....about every 2 days....every day if they're really thirsty.

Iput some 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water in the bottle and shake vigorously......add a drop of Dawn dish soap and shake vigorously.....and then rinse throughly. Squeaky clean! :D

If I were you, I would provide both and see what your bun likes better (or he may like both). My Basil and Max live together, Basil drinks out of the bowl and Max drinks out of the bottle. Each refuses to use the other :)

Mr Tumnus, on the other hand, likes having both. I see him using both his bottle and his bowl routinely.

Some buns have a preference..so if you can, just put both in!

Cant wait to hear more about your new additions!

I use bottles in their hutches. But I have found they are hard to clean, even with a pipe cleaner kinda brush. In the pet shops they have bowls but all the hay gets in them and I think they get dirty easily. Unless you store the hay away from the water bowl.

I have about 3 random bowls of water dotted about my garden for play time. They are very easy to clean and good to, because not only the bunnies drink from them. I get hedgehogs and birds drinking from them too :)and even the cat next door when he fancys a drink the other side of the fence.

I wouldnt change using the bottles though in the hutches. If I used bowls the hay would get into them as I have hay on the floor of my hutches.

Arent you worried about other animals getting your bunnies sick? I would be afraid to let anything drink out of the same bowl as my bunny. A wild animal could easily spread something to your bunnies.

I would recommend bringing your bowls in when your bunnies arent out.

I also use lock crocks. they are bad about getting shedding fur in them, also Alex's ears get in it. and they dont hold as much water, but i prefer them to bottles because i dont like that clicking noise

Aww yer thankz! They are like babies. My dad left a rake in our garden on the floor spikes up, and you should of seen me run to pick it up when the bunnies went over to it exploring it. :disgust:
