so over the summer, i either have to read "the giver" by lois lowry or "Fahrenheit 451" by ray bradbury.

i have never heard of these books and i dont know which one to read

has anyone ever read these?

please give your thoughts on these books like:
if its boring
hard to understand
awesome
etc

thanks!!!

:big wink:

I never read Fahrenheit 451, but The Giver is one of the books that made the extensive room cleaning cut and gets to stay on my bookshelf. (I just finished college and am narrowing down my belongings before I head off to vet school in August). I really enjoyed it and also read its sequel.

I read "Fahrenheit 451" when I was a kid, nearly 50 years ago now. I agree, while it's got an interesting premise (all books are banned, and the fire department's job is burning those which are left) - I have to admit it's not Bradbury's best work. If you can, try the "Martian Chronicles" first or, for a complete change of pace, "Dandelion Wine".
