Sudden death

My rabbit suddenly passed away. I noticed for a week or so that he had been urinating on himself but I didn’t think anything of it because I thought he was stepping in his urine. He had a litter box and would always use it. Up until recently he hadn’t been using it but only once in awhile. Is that connected to his sudden death?

Urinating on himself -- or having a sudden change in his litter box habits -- can indicate a urinary infection. I wouldn't think that would cause death within a week's time though. Was there anything else going on? Jennny (@JBun ) may have some other thoughts.

A UTI by itself won't cause a rabbit to suddenly die, unless the rabbit went septic. Urinary incontinence can also occur when a rabbit is in pain and sick from other things like bloat, heart problems, e. cuniculi, etc. But if there were no other symptoms, there's no way to know for sure what might have been the cause without a necropsy being done. I'm sorry for your loss.

I don’t believe there was anything else going on with him. He didn’t go outside and there’s no other rabbits. We have a dog but it left it my bunny alone. Thank you for your input.
