I was going to test breed today as I wasn't sure if the mating of my two does last weekend was successful.
I decided to start with Ember and before I put her in with the buck I checked her vulva and it was bright red! The change in her behaviour towards the buck (compared to last weekend) was amazing. She almost harassed him to be mated butt up in the air and all. Within the first few minutes he grunted and fell off and did so repeatedly for a while.
When I tried the second doe (her vulva was rather pinkish) things were totally different. She didn't snap at the buck but simply avoided him and Hamish, as we know, is a gentleman by nature:)
My conclusion is: Ember, the proven doe obviously didn't take last weekend and should certainly be expecting after today. I am not sure what to make of Pearl's behaviour. Could she already be pregnant or still not in the mood?
I wonder is there any point test breeding them again in a few days?
Another thing I observed is that after the mating the vulva really swelled up to 3 times it's normal size. I wish I had known that last weekend so I could have checked the girls. It's all a learning curve:)
