I cant believe her please help!!My friend justgot three rabbits about 2 weeks ago. She got a boy and 2 female. As Isaid she is stupid and put them all in the same cage. Her dad isplanning on making more cages so each can have one.
Well, now she thinks that both her girls may be getting pregnant. Itold her the only way you can be sure is to palpate them. I tried toexplain that to her, but she doesn't get it.
If some one would please post a long answer on how to take care of themom, finding out if she is pregnant, what to do about it, and how totake care of the babies after being born that would be wonderful. I amplanning on yelling and screaming, drilling this into her, and printingout any info you give me. I told her to get on the website but shedoesn't have the internet.

HELLO AND WELCOME

i think instead of posting on how to take care of the mom i would justlike to say IT DRIVES ME NUTS HOW IRRISPONISBLE PEOPLE ARE. i cantcomment further because this is my biggest pet peve in the world!

Some of the larger breeds can take up to a yearto reach sexual maturity. The smaller breeds tend to hit it about4-5months. Although some rabbits can breed at 12 wks.

It would really help if you go estimate how old they are and what breedthey are. I would go ahead and mark the 31 days mark after she put themtogether just incase.

As for palpating, sorry, can't help you there. I can't figure it out,and every breeder I have talked to almost never does it so they reallycouldn't help me either.

If they are first time mothers it's possible they might not make anest, or not have the babies in the nest, they can accidently "cleanoff" appendages, they may not feed them, ect. I have also been toldfirst time mothers tend to have smaller litters, which would be good ina case like this.

Either way, she needs to seperate them all NOW.

what the heak is this about??? carolyn can u please lock this?? the title isnt very appealing or nice!

A girl who took two of Bub's siblings had a"false alarm" when the two mated shortly after 12 wks. She also waitedtoo long to separate. Happily, 31 days came and went with no sign ofyoung ones. Here's hoping for the best....but for sure they need to beseparated, so they don't start either mating again or beating on eachother. If they do give birth, they need their own space.

Separate cages, nest boxes, and hay, for sure. Some say don't put theboxes in until a week or so before, but if the hutches have a sleepingbox already that works fine stuffed with hay. Some rabbits like it ifyou scatter hay outside and let them carry it in. It's pretty funny towatch.

Nursing and pregnant buns need more feed too, and drink lots of water.

I'm sure the experts will weigh in here, so I'll sign off!

:D

I am sorry if I offended you, as that was not my intetions.

This was what I was responding too. Nicole wrote about appendages beingaccidently removed by first time moms and as that is what happened tomy Tucker, I thought I would add my two sense. That's all.

I didn't mean to step on anyones toes...:?It was merely a reply to a topic.

..Yeah I don't understand what was wrong withthat either? It's a thing that happens sometimes.. and isn't too rare.Just trying to let them know whatcould happen.

Oh, goodness no, you didn't offend me. I was just answering a questionsomeoneraised about the thread--confused about the topic, Ibelieve. Your baby's adorable, ear or no ear. Just misunderstandings, don't worry!:DIt's neat for rabbit raisers to see ahappy healthy bun that survived an overzealous mum! That stuff happens, and it's good to know about.
