Uh, my computer is so annoying, I don't know what's wrong with it! There is a message popping up every couple minutes saying I'm running low on memory, I checked my memory and I only have 628 MB out of 68.5 GB, where the heck has all the memory gone? I did the disk cleanup thing and that freed up a little bit of memory, then I went through it and deleted whatever programmes I don't want anymore, I even deleted all my music (which I am regretting, now, terribly!), I went through my photos and deleted whatever I didn't want and went through my documents and deleted old files, and only managed to free up 628 MB, where has my 68.5 GB gone? Plus I don't have any games or anything on here.

Anyone know how I can free up some memory? I really want to get Sims 3 in June :p

Do you have any movies or videos on your computer? They take up a lot of space.

I'm actually having the same problem right now with my computer. But I know mine is related to my dozens of movies and seasons of TV shows i have on my computer. I only have 8g of free space on a 225g hard drive. So I'm in the process of burning dvds and deleting the video off my computer.

Programs and music usually take up a small amount of space.Unless you had tons of games, or huge programs they shouldn't be using up much of the 68gigs.

Have you checked for viruses or anything?

Not sure what else would be using up hard drive space.

I only have about 5 videos saved on my computer, but nothing that could take up that amount of space. I don't think I have a virus anyway, it's really annoying me now!

The memory might be the RAM, just a wild guess here but in computer terminology, the harddrive isn't generally referred to as memory (unless it says virtual memory or something like that).

If the harddrive message is coming up, it'd be more like "c: is running low on space. Click here to perform a disc cleanup" yada yada yada.

If it's low on memory you will need some more RAM.

Do you know how much ram it's got? Is it sharing it with the graphics card?

:yeahthat:

What programs are you running? They can tale up a lot of memory. RAM basically refers to how much memory your computer has to run different programs etc.

If you have next to nothing stored on your computer, I don't know why it could be full though....

I would definitely try and run some anti-virus, because with PC's, when stuff goes wrong, more often and not that's the reason why. It certainly can't hurt anyway....

If you're getting a low memory alert, it probably is referring to the RAM. If you're running lots of programs at one time, it will use up a lot of RAM.

After you get RAM either freed up, or more installed, I still recommend freeing up some hard drive space, either deleting programs and stuff you don't use, or get a bigger hard drive. External drives are generally pretty inexpensive, and can be used to store stuff you don't want to get rid of, but don't use frequently. They're also good for making backups, in case something happens to your system.

I have always heard that your hard drive should have about 10% free space on it to be able to work properly.

I'm also looking forward to Sims 3. My husband recently upgraded my computer, which was a couple years old, so it will be able to run Sims 3. New motherboard, new processor, new memory card. Sims 3 has some pretty intense requirements.
(Jason was rebuilding his own computer, then swapped out his old parts, which were better than what was already in my "old" computer. Free to me!)

Ya this is basically what it's saying, sorry I took so long I forgot about this topic when my Nana died. Does anyone know what sort of things you can do to clear space? Like I said, I have nothing on here, I used to have all the sims 2 games and it never gave this problem.

This program is called EasyCleaner. It's free and easy to use. I use it a lot.

I'm going to try this, I put it downloading at home, I'm at my nans atm. Does it clear up alot of memory when you use it? I have no idea what a disk defrag-whatcha ma call it is, I'm not good with computers lol!

Easy cleaner will clean all unnecessary files. It's really easy to use. You are using windows right?? If so go into your start menu find accessories then System tools and click on Disk Defragmenter pick Analyze first and it will tell you if you need to defrag your hard drive. I would recommend if it needs to be done do it at night when it wont be in use.
