Is it okay to feed bunnies steamed veggies if they have nothing on them like salt because my mom thought it was okay but I didn't so I just wanted to ask!

You are right, no cooked veggies..fresh only!! Steaming them depletes the nutrients and I think that they are more prone to gas attacks by eating steamed veggies (don't quote me on that though!)

A little off track then - but aren't steamed veggies better for people than cooked?

I actually thought the nutrients were saved by steaming. Curious because I'm at my top weight right now so I've been eating a lot of the "healthy" Green Giant steamed veggie microwaveable packaged meals (or side dishes, but to me they're meals).

Really?! You learn something new every day :) I've always thought that you lost nutrients through steaming. I was under the impression that raw veggies were the best way to eat veggies. Either way, I really don't like steamed veggies so I'll stick with raw. Seems to me that the flavor changes when you cook them. The only exception with me is sauteed broccoli with soy sauce....YUM!!!!

It was my understanding that raw veggies generally have the most nutrients, but some compounds potentially enhanced by steaming/boiling.
I do know that some nutrients are lost tho, so You might wish to drink the vegetable broth after...

I am glad to be right! I didn't think it was good for them! OH and did you see we beat the record for most users online tonight!

Aly!:)

More nutrients are actually made available when you lightly steam the veggies. Cooking helps break down the cell walls and that makes it easier for your body to get the nutrients. It also makes up for any nutrients that may be damaged during the cooking process.

But just lightly steamed, not cooked to death as that will make them less nutritious
