i was cruising through photos of netherland dwarfs on here in the photo section :p (every bun is sooooooo cute!) and started realising that my first rabbit wanda, doesn't really look like one... and is too big...

i got her from the pet store, the cage had mixed rabbits in it, the cage had a list claiming half were netherland dwarf, and half were mini rex's, there was a rex, a wild looking jack rabbit that looks like someone pulled out of their back yard, and a big plump "dwarf" that just sat there and looked pregnant. we were told she was a netherland dwarf, and excepted it not knowing too much about rabbits and their breeds. she was so tiny when we got her and we were told she wouldn't grow much bigger, however she is pretty much the size of my lop/angora who is only a few weeks old, and she weighs around the 6 pound mark. also she has really big ears..... anyone got any suggestions?

An English Spot maybe?
I'm not too sure, to be honest.
She might be just a mixed breed, pet stores never get things right. Especially breeds. I've heard of someone getting a flemish GIANT instead of a dwarf because of what the pet store told them!

To me she sort of looks like a mix of a mini rex and some kind of a lop because her ears sort of have that look of a lop/straight eared mix and her body reminds me of a mini rex just with different fur. I could be completely off but that is just my 2 cents.

If you cross a rex or mini rex with anything you get all regular furred rabbits. Pet stores generally aren't good at knowing such things and may have assumed not having rex fur meant there was no rex in the rabbit and therefore had to be netherland dwarf. Mine also sells badly marked dutch rabbits as dwarf rabbits. The breeder tells them they are getting dwarf rabbits and that's they sell them as.

With rabbits, it is very hard to determine what could make up a mixed breed because mixes can take on characteristics of breeds that they're not even a part of.

I would agree that one possibility may be a Mini Rex mix. But it's really difficult to know for sure.

One thing you can know though is that the color is "broken chinchilla"! :)

She is probably a netherland dwarf mixed with some larger breed of rabbit. Her ears do look short compared to her weight.

She is NOT a netherland dwarf for sure!
She IS super adorable though!!!!!

I would guess she is just a mix breed, you cant really trust pet stores, they usually have no idea what they are talking about.
