Hey guys!
Yesterday was a bit of a landmark in our household. I officially started my daughter's education in how to care for a bunny. It was litterbox-cleaning-day, so I thought I would get her involved (so when we have our full herd of seven, I have her help).
I had her hold the garbage bag, while I dumped the boxes, one by one, and explained various things about why they're clipped to their cages, why one of SweetPea's has a marble slab underneath the litter (it doesn't quite reach the proper height to be clipped, and the slab makes it just heavy enough that she can't scoot it over to the edge and dump it), why we use wood pellet litter and put hay on top, etc. Most of it was stuff I've told her before, but it's better to tell things like that in context, so she can see what I'm talking about at the same time.
Anyway, I had her hold the garbage bag, I dumped the boxes, had her fill them with their litter, and I put the hay on top and put them back in. (The process would've also included rinsing in our incredibly hot tap water, but we'd run out of paper towels to dry them with, or I would've had her do the drying and subsequent filling.)
It was one heck of a first time! She's a chatterbox and a half (like her mommy...have you seen my post count?), so it was difficult to get a word in edge-wise at times...but I made sure to teach her everything about the process, and she learned a lot!
I hope to have the process down pat by the time the lionhead trio gets here, so I can have a great helper.
I also taught her the importance of rationing pellet food, and how much to give each bun, and such.
It was fun! I was so proud of her...she learned so much and was such a BIG HELP!
I'm proud of my girl...:biggrin2:
