HI !
I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions about Standlee Timothy Hay bales?
Is the quality good?
Do I have to worry about it being moldy?

Any one got any good suggestions for where one can get quality timothy hay for as good of a price as Standnlee?

Thank you , very much

I used to use standlee compressed timothy bales, until spring of this year when the quality was so crappy I got fed up and found a farmer to buy grass hay from. Last years standlee hay was pretty good. Come winter and spring, I don't know if they just ran out of the good stuff, but it was really dusty and brown, lots of fines that I had to sift out, and lots of weeds so I usually ended up throwing out at least a third of the bale, and I also ended up with a bale that I couldn't use because the hay wasn't dried thoroughly before being baled and the hay had molding through out the bale. Can't really recommend something that would be a comparable price though. Oxbow would probably have good quality, but it's about 3 times the price, and I'm just using farm hay now.

It's possible the new crop this year is better.

Thanks!
I have been trying to find a local farmer threw craigs list and other such sights but have not had any luck thus far finding timothy hay.

I read some reviews on Amazon for the 10lb boxes of Sandlee hay purchased in 2013 and most people where satisfied. I'm wondering if the 50lb bales are of the same quality as the 10lb boxes.

Thank you for your input, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as i am feeding 4 rabbits and need to find a budget friendly source

Thank you again,
Erica

I just bought a 10 lb. timothy bale on amazon from them. I think the quality is great, no weeds, my bun loves it.

You don't have to feed timothy hay to rabbits. It's a good grass hay for them, but any good quality grass hay will work. Some common ones are Bermuda, orchard, coastal, meadow, early cut oat. You'll want to keep away from fescue hay though. And you'll want to make sure it's good horse quality hay that hasn't ever been wet, is weed free, and smells and looks nice. I feed a rye(with out grain heads) orchard mix, and my rabbits like it and do well on it.
