Hi Everyone,

Everything has been going very well with Poe. He has stopped pulling at his stitches and they are due to come out in a few days. Last night his poos were fine - hard little balls that I could just sweep up. Today though when I got back from uni I noticed his little poos were squishy and there were a few big cectropes which were also sticky. He hasn't been eating as much hay as usual, but he has been getting a lot of Bamboo as treats when he comes out and got 2 big lots of grass yesterday, so I had put it down to just being too full. Now though, I think this may be why his poos aren't normal because he isn't getting about ruffage and is eating too much of his Guinea pig/rabbit mix and his oats rather than his hay.

Although his hay bowl is full I was thinking about emptying out what is there and re-filling it and seeing if they does the job. He might just be sick of the same hay being there and that's why he doesn't want much.

He has been just laying around sleeping on the desk with me today but I think that is just because it is hot and he is sleepy until night time. Well at least I hope that is why...

Any advice would be great! We have had diarrhoea problems with Dudley before when he was getting too many veggies, but Poe only got veggies 3 nights ago and got some Basil and grass yesterday and some grass and Spinach last night (not much of the Basil or Spinach, it was more to keep him busy because I was out at uni and then out at night so I wanted to make sure he wasn't too up set not being out).

Oh and he has been getting treats of Sakata crackers and Rosemary and Salt flavoured bread sticks for coming to when I tap on the ground. He only gets a tiny bite each time but I have been doing 5 minute training sessions with him about 3 times a day/ every now and then when he is out (which is when I am home).

Update: They are now back to normal. Is it just normal for their density to change sometimes?

Honey's poops haven't changed, but then I didn't get her until after she was neutered. So I imagine it was Poe's surgery & temporary diet changes that affected him.

You mentioned his hay bowl having old hay in it. Every few days you should stir it up so old hay doesn't stay at the bottom. I used a plastic container & cut some holes into it at the right height for Honey to reach in & get hay. The part of the container that was lower than 1" below the hole got stones in it to keep it bottom heavy, then cardboard over that to separate the stones from the hay. That way hay works itself down when new is put on top [plus when I see she's eaten what she can reach from the holes & I push more hay down into them] & none is left to get too old.
