I'm trying to figure out what Becky has been up to the last few days. It seems to me like she is nesting? She was spayed 9 months ago and lost her husbunny almost a month ago. She is now the only rabbit on that floor of the house. Both rabbits upstairs are neutered (one male, one female) and are not new to the home. Other than losing her husbunny a month ago, there have been no big changes. Eating, drinking, pooping all normal.

So, she has the same litter box, same litter, same hay that she has always had. The last 3 days she has been rearranging the hay out of the bin onto the top of the litter. She digs the litter out of the one end of the box, pushing it all to the side, then spreads the hay into a circle. She has a perfectly sized hole in the middle to sit in and will graze on the hay while sitting there. Then if she has to pee she jumps onto the litter and does her thing.

What the heck is going through her furry little brain? Is this just a fall redecoration? Nesting (why?)? Grieving? Something else?

Has anyone seen this before? I learn new things every day from my kids....

That sounds kind of like our Timmy.
Timmy (a neutered male) absolutely must have two litter boxes. One he uses as his litter box. It has pine pellets and hay above it that he eats. The second we refer to as his "nest." He brings hay into it and has arranged it into a bit of a swirl and he likes to sit in there, legs kicked back and comfortable.
If we take away one box, he will pee on the floor and use the remaining box for lounging in. He's a little quirky, but we found what works for him.
