I heard that it is not good to leave females intact. How so if that is true?
I have tried to find the lonely bunny a home but it is not working. There are way too many up for adoption. So I might have to get him a girl friend. He is neutered, so she doesn't have to be spayed.
I had a female bunny as a kid and she became aggressive and people said that it was because she couldn't have babies.
:?

They have an 85% chance of reproductive cancer by age 6. The aggression and guarding territory also are hormonal, so they are greatly reduced by spaying.

Basically rabbits go nuts when the hormones kick in and all they want to do is breed. By getting them spayed or neutered you relieve them of the biological urges so they can relax and just be themselves.

It is much easier and stable to bond a pair that are both altered.

:yeahthat:

You won't have much luck trying to bond a pair even with the buck being neutered the female will still (more than likely ) get grumpy with him.

Spay. Always spay. Too many health risks, behavioral issues, and if you really don't want to pay, some humane societies will spay your rabbit for free. (But there are risks involved with this, it is always better to look for a rabbit-savvy vet.

Thank you all. I am going to our local shelter on Friday to check out some spayed bunnies. I am sure one will be a good match with Mr. Lonesome.
Unfortunately there are many to choose from.

The best idea is to take him with you to meet them. He will let you know who the best girl is :)

It will make bonding SO much easier! It is like letting him marry for love rather than an arranged marriage.

Had not thought of that but will do that. I can't wait for him to get a friend. Thanks for the tip.
