i have 3 rabbits. Charlie and Fudge are shelter buns, so they came neutered and spayed. Lex was about to be neutered (he sprays) when he got really ill, so it never happened. He's still sprays ON Charlie and Fudge, but he's not agressive with them, and I love him just as he is, so I think I'll leave him for now. He's already had one big anasthetic this year and he's not 100%
What are the chances he'll get testicular cancer, does anyone know? I know unspayed female rabbits don't usually live past 3 years - what's the deal with males? Lex is 1 and 3 months old.

I remember doing some research on the matter for a question on another forum. Short answer is no, it's not that common. And even then, once they're neutered, it should be fine. Just make sure you neuter him before ~6yrs of age or he might be too old to be neutered.

Here's a helpful answer from Dana Krempels.

Hard for me to actually vote since I have both intact and altered rabbits, both sexes and for different reasons.

Korr is a male and was neutered. It was mostly that it was just something I think it right to do and I didn't really want to deal with the hormones and such.
Lillian is female and is spayed. She was spayed as part of the contract to get her from the breeder. She would have been spayed anyway, both to prevent breeding (not an issue with me) and for health reasons.
Amelia is also spayed and female. She was getting hormonal and I was bonding her to Korr, so she needed to be done.
Tesla is male and intact. He does not have any behavioural problems, but does hump a lot. He is 2 years old, so things like spraying and aggression should have shown up by now and they haven't. If it really became a big issue for me or a health problem, then I would seriously consider neutering him.
Kraken is also an intact male. He doesn't have any unwanted behaviours either. He does hump a bit, but not a lot. Again, if it were a big issue or a health problem, then he would be neutered.
Gizmo and Nala came to me neutered and spayed. They are bonded, so I guess that was a big reason they were done.

All of my rabbits came from rescues and so were already fixed. I love picking out a rabbit from a rescue because their personalities are evident once they are fixed. I know just what I'm getting. ;)

I have a mixture. Counting the buns who have crossed the rainbow bridge I have had 4 females and 4 males, all fixed.

Cinderella, Indiana Bunns, Houdini, Panda, and Bunnicula all came that way from the rescues.

Becky and Sophie were not fixed when I got them from the shelter/rescue. I had them done because of their health, Sophie had a hysterical pregnancy scare in the two week wait, get rid of the marking, and I bond my rabbits.

Gary was not fixed when I got him because his boy bits had not dropped yet. As soon as they did he was a humping and spraying fiend! Poor Becky did a good job tollerating him during this time but I wasn't going to let her get peed on every day. I would clean her up and as soon as she was on the ground again he would do a run by spray and get us both. All of his bad habbits went away when he was fixed.

Sorry, but the image of a run by spray by a bun is quite the funny image. :p

I've decided I'm probably going to only get adult fixed pets from local shelters or rescues whether it be cat, dog, or rabbit since I don't want to deal with spaying/neutering them myself and baby rambunctious behavior. I'm more than satisfied looking at pictures or watching videos of other's babies though. :)

I like that one!! I guess I'll make up a birthday for him...
Great choice, he is so cute! I made up birthdays for mine too.

I intend to just use their adoption dates as their birthdays. It's a valid anniversary! :)
Thats what I shall do! How long does the adoption process take? :?

I adopted both of mine from the SD county shelter and could take them home the same day once my landlord checked out over the phone and said I could own rabbits.

Going through the SD HRS might take longer cause I've heard that they actually go to where you live and look at it in addition to a more extensive interview process. But I could be just making that up since I've actually never adopted from them.

They say "Can we come to your house on a date and do a check up?" That freaks me out... haha I dont know why but it does. I don't want someone judging me and my bunny...

The funny part is that the rescues and shelters around here always ask, I say sure, they never set a date *shrug* I think they just want to make sure you don't have anything to hide.

Then again, I also post pictures to their FB pages and send updates on a regular basis, so they know how the buns are doing. The saddest thing is that the shelter I got Becky from doesn't give a hoot what happened to her. That makes me sad that no one cares that she's happy.
