I have been in AZ for 3 years, this past September. Every time the autumn weather starts hitting, I get extremely home sick for Upstate New York...where I lived my whole life (left when I was almost 16).

I miss the trees changing, the leaves falling down onto grass, the smell of the crisp air, hot apple cider, pumpkin patches and apple picking, horseback riding, halloween time, my friends.

I have none of that now. Hardly any trees change here, forget having grass (we have rock lawns!), crisp air?...more like the smell of control burns!, the only hot apple cider out here is at the grocery store or Starbucks, no pumpkin patches or apple picking, horseback riding is too expensive/too many people stuck in their "cowboy ways", halloween is no fun out there, and to top it all off....I have no friends!

Arggg :(.

I can't imagine not being in the midwest for Fall. I'm sure it's similar to upstate NY during that time. It's so gorgeous. I've lived my whole life here and just the other day, Lexi and I were marveling at the big red and orange trees!

I completely "get" how you could feel so homesick right now. Wish I could send you some Autumn in a shipping box. :(

I could never imagine not living somewhere where the seasons change, and there is snow, and there is the changing of the leaves!!!!!!!!!!! I am sorry you get homesick, but i could completely understand why. I can mail you some leaves, we have tons of them all over the place, lol :p You will have to go visit in the fall someone who lives over here to get your fill of it?

Thanks, you guys .

I am just DYING for good apples picked right off the tree! I LOVE apples, but I refuse to buy them out here because they taste terrible. They are not crisp and "apple-y". My dad is going back to New York in November, so I told him he better sneak me some apples home on the plane...even if they are from the grocery store :p.

I wish I could visit back there sometime, but I have all my pets here that Ryan wouldn't be able to keep up with. I also wouldn't like to see my mother. Maybe we will get stationed in Saratoga, NY with the Navy....that would be sooooo awesome!

What are your favorite apples? I love transparents for sauce - they are soft. But I love most any apple otherwise. Braeburn are really good. I think right now a lot of the delicious apples are on.

Amy, I am not joking - I live within walking distance of a U-Pick apple farm! I made homemade applesauce just Sunday. I love walking in the little storefront and the smell of the fresh apples just hits you..... yum!

I'm sorry Amy! I was just in upstate NY last weekend, and it is beautiful - but it is also COLD! I had my winter jacket on the whole time!

But I do know what you mean. As much as I hate the cold, I do love the changing of the seasons. I look forward to getting out the clothes I put away last year...there is just something about it.

See, at home in CA the leaves on our trees change, so I didn't get what the big deal was, until I got here, there are just so many trees!

Here's a few photos to help your homesickness...

WIDDLE WAMMIES!!! I can't wait til we get ours this year!

Amy you have friends all over the world and their bunnies love you too! and rats and doggies and ya know - I think animals are better friends than people sometimes! :)So I know you have those near you!

Anyhow, MissyCove, it's different isn't it?

Very different.
It's colder now than the coldest points of LA winter.

It is supposed to snow just a bit overnight and tomorrow morning.

Those pictures were GREAT, missycove :D!

I like any soft, crisp, red apple. The only "apples" I can eat out here is apple sauce. It's not the same thing as a fresh nummy apple :p.

I talked with my friend Kaitlyn from Mass last night on the phone, so that helped a little bit. It even helps to hear the strong accent, which I have lost most of mine :?.

Bo....one thing I miss dearly is horses. I miss taking "my" horse out whenever I wanted. Our neighbors had 3 horses and Danny was "my horse". We went trail riding in the national forest that backed up to our house multiple times a week. We would ride until we hit the sand pits, then do some ground work in the sand pits.

Ohhhh, it was so fun. I miss it like crazy. One day, ugh...one day I'll have my horsie again.

Peg, yep, probably LOL! Kota prefers we cut his into pieces.... Pokie eats hers whole. Oh and he wants his hand fed to him........ did you know horses own people too? :?

Amy, I can totally sympathize! A good horse to ride for fun is one of life's greatest things in my opinion. Going to the barn and just working on their stalls and talking to them, grooming them, etc., is like - therapy!

We stand sometimes and just listen to them all munching their hay at night. I can't explain why but that sound is so peaceful and so "home" .... ya know?

One day you'll make it back up this way. You can stop midway in Indiana for a visit! :D

"It even helps to hear the strong accent, which I have lost most of mine "

I envy you that..I have a strong Queens, New Yorkaccent and I HATE it! As soon as I open my mouth, people say "Hey you're from New York!".

What are you YOU talkin' about!! :whatevah
