It's my favourite time of year, but things like a huge fox trying to take my tiny Irish Jack Russel, right in front of me :expressionless This time of year definitely has its disadvantages!

Thats scary, hope you guys are ok. But I would have figured a jack russell could handle a fox since thats what they were bred to hunt. I've seen my friends Jack russells go berserk when we were on a walk and 2 Coyotes(bigger then a fox) came over to check us out. I felt more protected with those tiny dogs then I ever did with bigger ones.

Just make sure you dont' leave your dog outside alone if there is a fox around.

Mine is a wimp lol! She doesn't have the personality that you would assume of a JRT. Plus the JRTs ye have there are different.

Me and my Mam were outside, and we heard Holly crying her head off, we could just about make out Holly lying on her back and the fox had its mouth around her stomach and was slowly dragging her. I was screaming but it wouldn't stop, so I grabbed a bucket of ice that was beside me and flung it at the hedge and then it let go of her and trotted off. Poor Holly legged it inside with her tail between her legs.

She has a graze on her leg and one on her paw but fine anyway. I have never seen or heard of a fox taking a dog before, but they get really brave when they are starving.

Even though we live in the middle of no where, we rarely get fox attacks on the poultry, because the dogs are out there a little during the day. Guess they aren't scared of dogs anymore!

Our small dog is a Great Dane--lots of size but really likes to bark. The one you have to watch out for is the Bull-Mastiff--she's 140 pounds and doesn't hardly bark but will stand all of her hair up and growl. We are pretty much coyote and burglar proof.

That sounds scary. I guess the freezing temperatures make them more daring. My neighbours across the road have seen a fox in their garden in broad daylight a few times and we are not even real countryside:(

I am glad that everything is all right, irishbunny. I am lucky to not have fox problems....yet. (I've seen a fox here in New Jersey before, though). Scary.

As for me hating this time of year, it goes something like this:
