Yes, someone abandoned a sweet guinea pig on my doorstep this evening. It looks to be an adult female (sow) and thank goodness my dogs made a ruckus about something on the front porch since it is below freezing here today. While I can't believe someone would dump their, "baby," on a stranger's doorstep, I'm grateful that they cared enough to leave her with me.

I'm known in the area for my willingness to take in small animals in need. I have had my hands full in the past with tons of hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, and the like. My guess is it's someone who I've helped before who left the guinea pig, but I have no way of truly knowing unless they choose to contact me.

For now, I have the guinea pig in a huge pot filled with hay and bedding. She was shivering and I'm worried that she was out in the cold for too long. I plan on making an appointment with the vet as soon as possible because I'd like to have her checked out before doing any introductions to my two guinea pigs. And, yes, I'm planning on keeping her...

I don't have any pictures of her yet, but I will take some once she's more settled and comfortable. She's definitely a sweetheart and looks to have been well cared of until she was abandoned, but I'll make certain with a check-up.

This brings my guinea pig count up to three. Gotta love 'em, eh?!

omg, that's mean! On a cold day too. But it's good you are heplful to animals. My sister would do the same thing if one was on our doorstep (she has 4 males at the moment).

Pictures if you can would be nice. =]

Wow, the nerve of some people...how can they just abandon their pets!!! That really ticks me off. :grumpy:

I am happy that she landed on your doorstep. She is a lucky little girl! Can't wait to see the pics!:biggrin2:

At least the guinea pig's previous owner had enough sense to leave the pig with you! How kind you are to bring that adorable animal into your home. I hope that all your g.p.'s get along! :)

I really do not understand people. I guess some people have a heart for animals and some don't. There is a commercial that airs here for an animal charity and it shows a family in the car and their dog has his head out the window and is super happy, then they drop it off at the shelter. They add "Imagine your family moves and they don't take you." I've seen and heard it a million times, yet every single time I get teary eyed.

Thank goodness there are people like you in the world. I'm so glad you took her in!

Someone left a piggie on my doorstep this fall :X

I figured it had been purchased at our fair, and I was able to track down the breeder who came and picked it up. Although we had the name of the lady who purchased the piggie, we were unable to track her downand the local warden didn't seem to have any interest in pursing charges.

I didn't recognize the name, so have no idea how the lady ended up dropping the pig off on my porch????

Good think I looked in the box . . .
