I've been meaning to post this for a while - I wonder if it's just me or what. I've found that in every big handful of Kleenmama's 3rd cut timothy that there is usually 1 sprig of some dried puffy looking plant that is REALLY pointy and spikey. If I pick it up the wrong way it pricks my finger. Needless to say I have grabbed hay with my hands and have had ouchies. And, I've found Kirby pick out the spikeys with what I imagine could only be his mouth (OW?!).

Has anyone else seen these? What in the world are they? And how harmful are they to buns, if at all? I might try to get a pic of them and email Linda... but wnated to see if anyone else has seen them/know about them. I usually get so aggravated by being poked by one that I immediately toss it in the trash :grumpy:

good find,,helen,,probably a thistle bush,,but i thought that kleenmans had fewer,,or well--, noxious weeds were nonexistant,,due to raising,harvesting,,technics,...-i think i would call them let them know what kind of product is slipping by...cuz your not a happy customer,,$$...sincerely james waller-//-good job:wave::bunnydance::rose:--try to not feed kirby and toby-unlessyou can pick out the pricklies,,or get an exchange

I had just picked everything outta the last of my 15lb box of KM 3rd cut timothy, so there... is no more evidence LOL Patti, maybe it's just luck of the pick sometimes. I am ordering another 9 lbs which is enroute right now, so I'll see what that bunch looks like.

I get fixated on getting schtuff cleaned out sometimes and forget that I was supposed to ... do something else with it, like take pictures and email Linda!

There were 2 things in the hay that were really odd - one is like some kind of a weed that looks like a little tree with tiny thin branches. The "branches" of the weed look like spiderwebs sometimes. Some are green and some when dried out are purple. There was tons and tons of this throughout the box, and anytime there was a big piece of this thing, the hay would clump.

The fuzzy spikey things - James, I googled the thistle bush and the images were hard to really match up since my stuff is obviously all dried up now. It sorta looks like it though. If I happen to find one in my mostly-clean hay, I'll email her!

I'm not angry or dissatisfied. My buns are picking out the spikey things, and they would eat the tree/webby things but I pick out so much of it that I hardly think it would be harmful. I do spend a lot of time picking this stuff out and the spikey things hurt, so it is a bummer. But the hay is so wonderful sans-schtuff that I don't even mind so much picking it out.
