On August 25th my husband and I are celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary!

We have been married 5 years but together for 17 years! We were friends when we were kids and started dating when he was 14 and I was 17. We dated the whole way thru high school. When he finished University we bought a house(which is kind of a cute story too!) and moved in together! We have always been each others best friend! He is the kindest person I know. He always thinks of me before he thinks about himself. He is smart and I have always been proud of the things he has accomplished in his life! :D I wanted to do something special for him. Something romantic. We don't have a lot of money lately thanks to bunny emergencies! And I don't think we will be comfortable spending any until we build up somemore in the vet fund! :DLOL But I didn't want to spend a lot of money anyway! Does anyone have any ideas for something we could do together?? The only thing I had in mind so far was breakfast in bed for him...after letting him sleep in.:D Maybe walking to the park to feed the ducks. Or going to the arboretum where we were married to have a picnic??

What has anyone else done to celebrate their anniversaries??:)

Aww...those are really romantic and sweet ideas for your anniversary!

We didn't do much for ours...we were flat BROKE!! And this was our first anniversary! Lol...

You could also make him a card from scratch either on the computer or drawing things yourself, etc. :)

I like your idea's! My dh & I will be celebrating our 5th anniverary in September (together for 10 years tomorrow!). We will be on vacation with our kids on the day, so will probably go to the beach with a picnic.

Could you make some IOU type cards, like things for a back rub, cook a meal or a sleep in? I did this for our first anniversary. I gave him the cards and over the next few months, he would use the cards to get the me to cook, run him a bath or cook a romantic meal.

The only problem with the ideas I have had already are that we do them all the time! :? On Saturdays I let him sleep in as long as he wants then make him breakfast in bed and on Sundays we get up in the morning cook breakfast, pack it up in our basket and spend the morning at the park eating breakfast and feeding the ducks! Ugh!How hard can it be to do/think of something romantic?? :?

I am def going to make a card from scratch!:)I like the idea of IOU's too! I guess I just wanted something heartstoppingthat he didn't expect! ;) When comes to him I can never keep my mouth shut! LOL We had a b-day party for him in January. I planned it, booked the restaurant, bought the cake, invited everyone (11 People)...it took about a month of planning. And I darn near exploded from wanting to share it with him. :DThen he was surprised! Of course it helped too that he is an accountant and was preoccupied with month-end/year-end at the time! :D

I once created a treasure hunt around the house and around the neighbourhood. I started with a little poem that led him to the first spot (and I made it specific to us - so hints that it was where we had our first date, or where we had our first kiss etc.), and at each spot had the clue to the next spot etc. At the end he got his prize. Maybe it's the nice dinner you cooked, or cookies/cupcakes you made or anything you made him etc. Makes a small present lots of fun.

Edit - OH I remembered something else I did that made a big impression. It was for neil's birthday and it's an ongoing thing with us now. I took a pad of small post-it notes and I wrote all kinds of little messages on them "I love you", "You're the best", "You have the cutest butt" :Detc. Then I put them everywhere - and I mean EVERYWHERE. I hid them in his shoes, put them in the cereal boxes, put them in his coat pockets, stuck one on the ceiling of the bathroom, inside cabinets, in his laptop bag, underwear drawer... you get the gist... he woke up, found a couple and thought it was cute, but he was finding them ALL day - everything he did all day long he was coming up with more notes. He had a good collection going by the end of the day and he was finding them for weeks.

Oooh a treasure hunt would be so cool!! :D I'll have to give it a bit of thought...! Where would I have it? What would be the treasure! I love this idea!!! :D Thanks Honey Pot!!! This is def a keeper!:D

Ok! So I will start off the day with the usual breakfast in bed...flollowed by a 'walk' in the park...where I will give him a card hand made by me(I can draw so it will probably be a pic of the bunns!) with an IOU for 'something'...followed by a little treasure hunt, and we can end the evening with a candle light picnic at the arboretum where we got married!

Sound Good??:D

HoneyPot, that's so romantic!! I love both those ideas! I'm gonna do the post-it love notes for my husband for our next occassion...which is in a few months. :)

Good ideas!! :D

That sounds great! Remember to let us know how it goes!! I've stopped being romantic lately - this is a good reminder to do more romantic things!

That's the biggest problem with being married! The longer you are together the more you lose sight of the little things! Romance gets lost in the day to day shuffle! Hubby and I made a promise to always remember that we love each other! We will say I love you at least twice a day and try to do something nice for the other person at least once a day...whether it be taking out the garbage, helping clean the litterboxes, making the other person laugh uncontrollably...whatever it takes!!:D My parents had a horrible marriage that ended in divorce...I want something better than that for us!;)

Sounds like you guys are off to a great start! Neil and I aren't even married yet - we've known each other for a while, so we'vefallen into that 'comfort' zone where you just take romance for granted. :) But you have inspired me. Yesterday was Neil's birthday, so I am baking him a surprise cake and I am making him surprise dinner (he usually cooks! - There's a reason for that, so we'll see how dinner turns out!).

Sounds like fun!!:D Even if it is a horrible meal <knock on wood>;) it's the thought that counts! He will probably be surprised that you cared enuff to try! :D Tony tried to make me breakfast once. I was really sick so he decided to make me breakfast in bed. Honestly it was the worst thing ever!!:D There is a reason why HE doesn't cook! He made steak and onions...sauteed in straight lemon juice! With a side of eggs that he thought were burnt but actually he had peeled the teflon coating off the pan when he turned them! :?It also came with burnt toast(cold with butter) and the blackest coffee ever! I ate every last bit even though it almost killed me!:D Now I wake up early every weekend just to make sure he doesn't cook!! LOL:shock:
