I've heard salsa, ketsup, jalapenos...

I'm heading out to the store this morning to buy more garden plants. At this rate I'll grow my own salmonella - it'll be cheaper that way.

:?

 HAHAHAHAHA that was too funny, lol.

I just said something to my hubby that i made a pasta salad, per my sisters request, and it had tomatoes in it so i probablly just poisoned everyone at her party!!!!!!!!

We're growing our own e coli and salmonella too! ;)

I have to return beef to Kroger today...... this is getting ridiculous!

So, basically, do not eat salsa! Ketchup, seriously? I guess ketchup is made from tomatoes, but I thought salmonella would be killed by the high temperature the ketchup is processed at. I bought a bottle of ketchup a month ago that I haven't opened yet, do you suppose it's safe? I work at a Fred Meyer (owned by Kroger) and so many people are still buying ground beef! Also, the tomatoes that are ripened on he vine are okay, right? I've been buying those for our salads and so far, so good!

Same with A&W, tomatos were missing from the hamburgers, which is one of the main ingredients of their foods. What would they do for onion rings if onions were banned? :p

I work in the food industry, growing Bean Sprouts. It's a matter of keeping everything clean and sanitized.

If it's not the food that's killing you, it's the gas prices. I hear it's $4.60 / gal in Alaska the highest for the US.

Becca, I wouldn't worry about the ketchup too much. I think the salmonella outbreak is limited to the United States, so eat as much ketchup and tomatoes as you want :) I saw a really yummy sounding pico de gallo recipe yesterday though that calls for tomatoes, jalapenos, cilantro and lime juice and I really want to make it :(

Do you suppose organic salsa is okay? I bought some organic salsa last week, Emerald Valley kind (it's the best ever!), I'm wondering if we should eat the second container that we haven't opened yet! I think I'll go on though, chances are it's fine.

That can't be the highest, that'd be pretty cheap here.

Ah...so this explains the sign I saw in a Quiznos recently, stating that they used only 'safe' tomatoes that are free of threat. I was wondering why they had that there, as I hadn't heard anything about tomatoes being a threat. Brandy's right...it must be in Canada if a Quiznos here in Ottawa had a sign about it.

I'm wondering why there has been no mention of this in the local grocery stores though? I shop at Farm Boy and Loblaws (and buy tomatoes every time I go) and haven't seen a word about it.

As for backyard tomatoes, mine are just awful this year...barely growing, spindly plants. No idea why, as they usually flourish easily and have tons of fruit. And of all the years for them to not do well...just when ya can't trust the ones ya buy...;)

What brands of ketchup and salsa are infected with salmonella? because i have had both in the past few days and I am not sick. The salsa is i don't remember, and the ketchup....well i don't remember right now lol.

It's like that tomato paste thing you put on fries?

Wonder what they are wanting us to eat.. vegetables are contaminated, meat is contaminated, heck even organic has it's problems! Sometimes I wonder what exactly we are putting in our moths!

i had no idea about the ketchup being contaminated. doug puts it on EVERYTHING. even things that it shouldn't be on!!! literally he goes thru a bottle a week of ketchup at least and i buy the HUGE bottles. he didn't get sick yet. as for the gas prices....i don't even look anymore....i swipe my credit card and put the nozzle in the car and turn away and close my eyes. then when i'm done i hang up the nozzle quick and refuse to look at the price i just paid for gas. pathetic isn't it??
