Hi. I'm mommy to a 3 yr old holland lop buck with malocclusion. He was my only bunny at the time so It didn't matter what his sex was and I obviously found out when he got older. I recently got 2 more baby hollands almost 3 mos old. I was told one was a male and given no info on the other. They both appear to have the same genitals but I still am not sure if they are boys or girls. The poor lil things don't even have names yet. I've looked on several sites and still can't figure it out.

Hoping that I can find some helpful info on here. :anyone:

Well I myself have a lop bunny (I think part or all holland, I may find out today through either the vet and/or the breeder, cause I bought her at a store).
I have found a good website for telling, here it is:
http://www.pet-informed-veterinary-advice-online.com/sexing-rabbits.html

Keep scrolling down to look at pictures and such.

The male will have a circle (round hole) for the genitalia and the female with have a slit, but it is hard to tell the difference when they are so young.

I am not sure what my rabbit is yet, boy or girl, but I think she is a girl. I named her Sweetheart, which if she is a he, I will leave the name be. You could pick names that can go either way, or pick a name that just clicks, if you find out later the name is not matching the gender of the rabbit then you could change it... sorry it is so hard to tell the gender!

It's possible they're not of the same gender & at about 3 months a female can get pregnant, so to be safe you probably should keep them apart, though near each other.

Michelle gave a really good website to tell, but sometimes even the Pros have a hard time telling at that age. I'd keep them separated until you find out what they really are. Do you know anyone who knows bunnies if after reading Michelle's posted info you can't figure them out? Or maybe a Rabbit Savvy Vet could help?

I wouldn't sweat over names. Amazing how names pop in your head as you get to know your bunnies. Happened when we rescued Willard. The name just popped into my husband's head and Willard just stuck. Also nicknames come out after a while too. Willard is also called "Bunny Bear".

Wishing you all the luck with your new buns. How's your 3 year old taking to the new additions?

I took Sweetheart to her first vet appt. today and she said that Sweetheart is a girl! I asked if she was sure, and the vet was sure. So I do not know she figured it out because I have tried to figure it out myself and had little luck, I should of asked her how she knew, it was the only thing I regret about the visit but I had so many questions I didn't think to go there!
Also, yes seperating them is wisdom, especially if they are related! And keeping their cages close is bad cause they can mate through the cage! Give the cages some space and it should be fine, unless it is too late.
I couldn't figure out a name for days and my husband (also) thought of the name Sweetheart, I knew it was it, and nicknames came before and after.

I had already looked on that site. My confusion is because the genitals look like male but it appears to be more of a slit than round hole. I have no idea. I am leading towards the fact that they are both males because the breeder of the one is expierenced and told me it is a boy. They are not related but get along very well for now. I know if they are males I will definitely have to get them neutered but I have to find a vet in my area that deals with rabbits. I have heard horror stories about people that have taken their buns to vets that aren't rabbit savvy and one case I know of the rabbit died after a botched spay.

Oh and ZRabbits... Buster hasn't met his new siblings because he is in his newly renovated outdoor hutch and the babies are in the house. Although I'm sure he would only be interested in "loving" them as he isn't neutered and often tries to do so with me:craziness lol

Are you going to move the babies out there with him? And regarding him "loving" them, hope so. Hormonesdo crazy thingsand the "loving"could eventually turn to fights. Seen that happen with my two males that were bought home together. Did well together until hormones set in. And had to split them before a bloodbath.

Fights between rabbits can be deadly. Thankfully mine were inside and I heard the ruckus.

Wishing you luck with babies and your Three Year Old. Hoping they all get along.
