Small Service announcement for all the starving artists... and everybody else too!!

For those of us who don't have quite as much money as we would like and on more than one occasion have to stretch the budget just to feed ourselves there is a solution. I was told about this while on a movie shoot by a girl who survived college through this program. It's called Angel Food Ministries, and its all over the US. And most especially all over Texas. They have pick up points in every major city and apparently though it is done through churches, you don't have to be a member or prove your need. Apparently the pick up points have a menu and envelope to place your order in and then you just pick your food up the next Friday. What it really breaks down to is $60 worth of food for $30. You can do a month on this box of food with maybe a few days of ramen or mac and cheese added in to supplement it. Totally a good thing

This is the web site. http://www.angelfoodministries.com/default.asp and go to host site, to find the locations.

I did check this out myself, called a couple of the churches locally, got the lowdown, and this is an up and up operation, and used quite a bit here locally. It works exactly as it says..

Here is an excerpt from a local church..

Don't miss the contact number and THIS MONTH'S ANGEL FOOD ORDER FORM for our Angel Food Ministry. The cost of the supply of food from Angle Food Ministry has increased to $30.00. This ministry is growing and helping many families in our area.

I've read about this in several places now and it sounds like such a great idea. I think I qualify as a starving college student, I am a currently jobless full time college student (hooray for pinching pennies and looking for a job!) and we rarely eat meat because it's so expensive. Unfortunately, they don't have this program in my state. Oh well. For those of us who don't have access to this program or want more ways to cook less expensively, the More With Less cook book is really awesome and has a lot of recipes for inexpensive and healthy dishes. The book was written in the 60s I believe and some of the recipes definitely need to be spiced up, but we honestly haven't tried anything from it that wasn't good... and cheap! I ordered my copy from amazon.com. I love cook books and cooking, and I'm sure I use this one more than any other. In fact, I'm going to use the recipe from it for making your own cream of chicken soup base for a veggie lasagna tonight! It tastes a lot better and costs way less than buying the icky cream of whatever soups.

I'm glad you reposted! I have CRS - Can't Remember Stuff - so I needed a reminder about the program :) :)

Is heck to get old and forgetful.
