I have noticed that by bunny's poos have been a lot smaller since Saturday, some of them are very tiny. She is eating well. Can anyone tell me why they are like this and whatI could give her?I gave some pieces of pineapple andshe only ate one bit.

hmm... she could be about to go into stasis. Make sure she has access to lots of hay. Since she is still eating, I wouldn't panic yet. But monitor her closely, and if she starts eating a lot less, or stops eating all together, I would take her to the vet.

What is stasis and how do they get it? She is a year old,I had thought maybe furballs. Should I give her more hay and not very much vegetables?

Stasis can be fur balls. Stasis is when the intestinal track stops pushing stuff through like it should (a.k.a. they stop pooing). Usually people on the forum here suggest to make sure they have their needed 24/7 unlimited hay (should always have that.Timothy is best) and then they usually go on to suggest pineapple, papaya, pumpkin (pure canned or fresh is both good) and some would even say to dose them with nutrical.Tummy rubs andcertain baby meds that you could find on past forums also tend to be prescribed by the forum if true stasis actually forms. Exercise is vital to keeping the tummy churning.

What is she eating now, soft or hard food?

No change there. She still gets pellets in the morning and freshfood in the afternoon [parsley, broccoli, apple, carrot] we have had to limit her on high protien pellets as they causeher "soft" poos . When I noticed them getting smaller last nightI gave her some extra pellets which resulted in some "soft" ones but today again they were quite small, haveI not gave her enough time ?

Are you feeding her grass hay, such as timothy? If not, I would start. It provides lots of fiber and is good for scrubbing their intestines clean. If you do feed hay, then limit her pellets a little more so she will eat more of it, at least temporarily.

Also, since she is eating veggies, you could start feeding her pumpkin. I use canned 100% pumpkin. It has lots of fiber and is good for rabbits with small poops or lots of fur in their poop, as it will help "scrub" the intestines, too. Don't use the stuff with the pie spices.

How old is your bunny? If she's full grown (6 months to one year depending on breed) then you can switch her to low protein pellets. I really like the Oxbow timothy pellets I feed mine. If she's still growing, make sure her pellets have no more than 16% protein. Some of the pet store pellets have more than that, and it can cause soft poos and excess cecal "night"poops.

Another thing you can give her is unprocessed oatmeal. Not the instant kind. At the first sign of a small poo, we give our rabbits oats and it always helps.

She is mature. One year old mini lop. To be honest,I live in N.Ireland, Ballymena and I have never seen canned pumpkin but I will look for it. You said oats, do you mean porridge oats? As breakfast cereal?

Yes, you want to use the oatmeal you have to cook, give it her straight from the container, no need to cook it for her.

I am going through this with my guy Apollo right now. Take away the pellets and give unlimited hay.

Canned pumpkin can usually be found in the baking section of the grocery store. If you can find it get two cans.

I'm also giving Apollo lots of dried pineapple and papaya.

If you can hearher tummy making noises you can give her infant gas drops. .03ml every four hours.

Nutrical will help give her a boost and increase her appetite.

As much play time as you can give her. Moving helps to keep things moving also. Tummy massages will help too.

I know some of our UK members have found canned pumpkin in some stores during Halloween. If you find some, stock up. It's really handy for cases like this.

Is there any harm in giving the bunny instant oatmeal? Last week I went to the German store in town (Metro) to look for oatmeal. I thought I would find a box of Quaker's but they only had Chinese brands, with no English on them. I got the smallest package, and gave some to Qingqing. She wouldn't touch it the first night, but ever since then she's been scarfing it down! I thought that maybe if I had gotten her the instant kind, it would dry her out, but she's still peeing as much as usual. I give her about two tablespoons each day. Any suggestions or comments?

Maxine, I live in Australia and I have yet to find pumpkin in a tin, however I have found it in the baby food section of the supermarket, maybe you could try there.
As most others have said, unlimited hay at all times is definately theway to go, keeps the insides moving and everything flowing properly.

Took zoe to the vets on friday. The vet said her stomach was not bloated she gave me an antibiotic to give her. She also told me that cooking oil is good to make them and to give 3ml. I have not tried it. For a day or so, her poos had got bigger but I noticed yesterday and today they are very tiny again. She seems to be eating well and is in good form.

Maxine, is there any way you can get canned pumpkin? It has tons of fiber and will help along with the unlimited hay. How about Nutrical? Can you get that where you are? Have you tried papaya tablets or dried papaya yet? Is she still drinking ok? Sorry for all the questions.

I'm sorry you and her are having a tough time of it. I'll continue praying for you and your little one.

Chinabun, no instant is not good for rabbits as it swells in their stomachs. If you can find regular oatmeal, you can try and find a feed store. Get her the kind of oats they give to horses.

I give Pebbles 1 teaspoon of Quaker Quick Oatmeal mixed in with her pellets,10 pieces of sunflower seeds,a few alfalfa bits and Papaya tablets at night. In the morning I am rewarded with a huge pile of poops. The Quaker Quick Oatmeal is the type that you have to boil for 3- 5minutes.But I think it's the papaya tablets (3 a day) and dried papaya as treatsthat's helping her poop.

Rainbows! :)
