Is Slug Poison poisinous to rabbits and guineapigs? I am having a major problem withslugs in the runs andin their hutches and food bowls. There are loadz of them in the garden, and they are all attracted to the rabbit and guinea pigs homes. So ireally want to get them out for good! Its not very nice finding a slugin your food bowl Or in your bed i would of thought!

If it is poisinous then do you know of any alternatives? Maybe puttingsalt down or something? Or is that even worse? I know they have saltlicks, but is it different salt to the stuff you buy in thesupermarkets?

We had someone else on theboard who went through that earlier thisyear , poisoning slugs , If Iremember right it made the rabbit veryvery Ill for days.
I would not use any type ofpoison anywhere near where the rabbitswill be , Instead use a semideep bowl with beer in it . They will goafter the hops and sugars and drown .muchless problems for your rabbits.

Well its mostly the guinea pigs hutch they getinto. Its raised off the ground put only about 2 inches, with a pieceof wood going across so the guinea pigs cant get under thehutch. It will be quite difficult to put legs on the hutch,as it is inside the run so the pigs can go out and in during the day.So if the hutch was any taller the lids of the run wouldnt fiton. Thankyou for your help tho!

Do the slugs sence the beer then? and go into the bowl? would using a earthenware rabbit bowl work?

yes theslugs can smell or locate the beer ,they seem to love thatum stuff ,
come to thinkof it I wonder just how do the locateit , and can slugs smell , noclue but they know its there and willcome running over to find it ,
Yes an earthenware bowl would be fine , just be sure it isnt one you will reuse later .
:vomit: just the thought yuck!

Lol errr yeah! I have loadz of random rabbitbowls laying about so im sure to not use that one again! Unless i soakit for a year lol. I will write "beer" on the side of it, as it says"water" at the moment lol

I am confused. How would the rabbits not get the beer?

Also I never knew you could keep ginnie pigs outside- or dose it not get cold were you live?

Im going to put the bowl in the run when i lock the guinea pigs in their hutch at night.

You can keep guinea pigs outside if they are covered up well from thewind/cold. I put lots of hay in their hutch, and have about 4 covers iput over the hutch when it gets cold. But usually if it gets frosty andsnowy i bring them inside for the winter.

But i am having slug problems at the moment when it isnt that cold outside.

You can also just put some soda pop (like cokeor pepsi) in a bowl. It will attract the slugs and they'lldie in it.

Thanks for that InfoPam, Hubby wil be happy I wont be swipinghis beer , I didnt know Soda Popwould work as well . this isgood to know .

I've have had such a problem with Slugs in myRabbits hutches. It is awful. One morning we came to check on them andthere was literally about 20 in Daisy's bowl. I could have died! All myrabbits hutches DO have legs on them, the things can climb up them. Ihate them so much.
