Has anyone ever gone to a sleepclinic? If so what actually happens there? One of the DoctorsI see for my back problems wants me to go to a Sleep Clinic.

She asked me if I slept well, which I don't because of the backpain. I feel it's going to be a waste of time, because it'sd/t the back that I don't sleep. Also how's someone supposeto sleep when they have electrodes attached to their head? I have to beat the place for 8:30, I don't usually go th bed till midnight orlater, I'm wondering just what the heck am I suppose to do all evening.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

No. I haven't tried it. It would be interesting to see what they look for.

My wife says I stop breathing when I sleep, but I say I'm fine. :D

Is your back pain from the car accidents youhad? What kind of bed so yousleep on,or pillows do youuse?
Do you sleep on your back?
Rainbows! :bed:

Yes the back pain is from the accidents, I just use regular pillows and have I guess have a regular mattress.

The Doctor gave me some kind of freezing shots last week so now i'm wayworse, I can bearly walk or move at the moment. I'm not toosure about getting more of these needles in my back.Nowthe pain is going to both hips not just the leftone. On top of that she gave me some new kind of pain pill that reallymakes me feel high, I really don't like the feeling I'mgetting. "My God I'm a mess". LOL

Hey,

Chris has to go to a sleep clinic soon too. His father hasgone a few times for sleep aphnea (sp??). I really dontunderstand why you'd have to go to a sleep clinic with backproblems. That really doesn't make any sense to me.Ofcourse you don't sleep well with back problems. But thatdoesn't have anything to do with your sleeping patterns.

I know you have to be there early. Bring a book or something, you don't have to go to sleep right away if I remembercorrectly.

I haven't been to a sleep clinic yet, but I do have to go in May, so I did some research.

This is pretty much what I know; they will put electrodes on your head, and they'll video tape you sleeping.

Hope it goes well.
(or if you already went, I hope it went well)

^_^

Hi Susan, Do you know if you snorewhen you are sleeping? Also did your Dr. have you answer awritten test about falling asleep. I went to a sleep clinicin December. I spent 2 night there. The first wasto determine if I had sleep apnea. The second was to sleepwith the CPAP machine to see if it would help my sleep apnea.

Do you have sinus problems? Sleep problems do affect yourover all health, so I think it would be a good thing to do.

I do not know why they want you to come so early in theevening. I had my choice of a 9:00 or 10:00 p.m.appointment. It takes them about 1 hour to get you ready togo to bed. I was afraid that i would go over there and notsleep soI made sure thatI was physically very tiredbeforeI went.

I can give you more specific information if you want. Just ask Thanks Beckie

Hi Beckie, my husband says I snoreLOL.I didn't have to to a written testyet. I don't have sinus problems, as I said I don't sleepwell because of the back injuries from the accidents.

I'm really leary of going only because if they come up with theconclusion that i have sleep apnea they can take your drivers licenceaway. I saw on TV about a month ago this man had his licencetaken away (he went to the clinic because his wife said he snored). He's now fighting to get his licence back as he doesn't have sleepapnea.

Hmmm, sleep apnea...
They thought I had that too, because of snoring, but it was onlybecause I had super enlarged tonsils. So they just recently did atonsillectomy. Sometimes people have sleep apnea due to enlargedadenoids too. Maybe you could get your doctor to recommend an ears, nose and throat specialist to take a look? That way you could ruleanything out and try to keep your license?

Oh my gosh!!, Just because you havesleep apnea does not mean that you cannotfunction!!! Taking your license away is that justsomething they do in Canada? If that is the case, then howdoes any one that has medicalissues drive? I mean, low thyroid function, diabetes, heart disease etc., " could "affect theway you drive.

Sleep apnea is not like narcholepsy (sp) where you just fall asleep anytime. Also there are degrees of sleep apnea. Thereare many ways to treat it also. Treating it corrects theproblem.

I would think that you need to question your Dr. more to find out justexactly what they are looking for. It could be that they arejust looking for the levels of sleep that you are gettinginto. If you are not getting into the deepest level of sleep, this is where you dream) them, you are not getting the proper amount ofrest.Could be that they are trying to see what kind of restyou are getting with the amount of pain you arein. Not getting the proper amount ofrestin the long run can cause a lot of other healthissues. Blood pressure changes for one thing.

I would question the Dr. a lot and if I did not get the answersthatI wanted then I would go to some one else. Iknow your health care system is different than ours, are you able to goto someone else?Beckie Oh, and one more thing before I went to thesleep clinic, I thought that slept very well. I had no ideathatI was waking myself up 19 times an hour trying tobreath.

My dad went to a sleep clinic 2 weeks ago. Theyhooked up his head and hands to all these little suction cups (middleof his head, ends of his finger tips and on his eyes, didn't hurtthough) and at 10pm, turned all the lights out. Unfortently, hecouldn't sleep because it was too early and just laid there for awhile. Then, every time he rolled over, the suction cups would come off andthey woke him up to put them back on. They woke him up at 6am becauseit was time to leave- he said he's never slept so little in a night!
On the way out, one of the nurses actually said to him, "Don't sleepmuch, do you?" My dad said his usual night sleep was 10 times betterthen his monitored sleep! :)

He didn't mention a video tape. He had to go because he's a diabeticand his sugar was high. If you're diabetic and aren't sleeping well, itcan affect your sugar levels.

Nothing to worry about, just a bit of a pain in the butt, was my dad's point of view.
