Bunny info

Name: Trixxie
Type: Jersey wooly
Diet: timothy hay, pellets and vegetables
Age: 07 months

i dont know if shes sick or not but i could really use your help to figure out so i can take her to vet. she was pooping grape cluster poop yesterday afteroon. so i just gave her hay and water thinking the pellets maybe too much protien for her? but i dont give her that much pellet. just in the morning. by night she was fine and pooping fine. even though she sleeps a lot, when shes awake she has so much energy so i wouldnt say lethargic. so today again afternoon shes pooping mushy poop in oval shape. ate twice in the 6 hours. spent 1 hour running around. the rest of the time sleeping. i also fed some pellets today since she got better last night. anybody have any idea? please help.

There are others here that would be better at answering your question than I. Is the grape cluster of poop, poops or is it cecotropes? How much pellets does she get in a day (ex 1/2 cup)? What veggies and how much? How long has she been eating veggies and did you start her off slowly, with one veggie at a time? Most buns are active in the morning and again in the evening spending most of the day sleeping other than to eat or go potty. Is this what she does?

she has been eating veggies sice she was 5 months old. carrots and pasleys are her favorite. and by pellets i meant half a cup. it looked like cecotropes. its night and shes still sleeping. ate a few times again tho.

It is normal for bunnies to produce cecotropes from time to time, especially if they are getting too much protein in their diet. That's the bunch-of-grapes-like poops. Mushy oval poops aren't right. This link is really helpful in figuring out what kind of strange poop your bunny has, and what it could be caused by

The behavior you describe sounds pretty typical, maybe a bit low energy for a bunny of that age. Have you only had her for a little bit? Where did you get her from and how long ago? What were they feeding her? How much pellets/veggies? I think with a bun that age and breed, 1/4-1/2c of pellets should be more than enough, and then you can start reducing it to the point where she doesn't produce excess cecals anymore.

I wouldn't push this aside and forget about it just yet because sometimes bunnies with intestinal parasites will have strange shaped, smelly poops, and also not eat their cecotropes. If you just got her, maybe from a place that wasn't the best of living conditions, she might have coccidia. It's easily diagnosed and treated by a vet (fecal exam).

i have had her since she was 2 months old. now shes 7 months old. last night she got better again and today i saw mucus with mushy oval shaped poop. i have been feeding the same kind of hay. but i have started a new pellet since 1 and half weeks ago. do you think this may be the problem? thanks everyone for the reply.

Did you slowly switch her over from the old pellet to the new pellet?
You said one of her favorites is carrots. Carrots should be given in small amounts as a treat.

It could be the new pellet, if you switched quickly. However I would think that the issues would have started sooner. Is she an outside bunny? Does she eat her hay well, or ignore it? Do you give her a lot of fruits and sweet veggies (like carrot) or iceberg lettuce?
