I am going to my first rabbit show and I am going to show my two Flemish giants. What can I do to prepare for the show? Tips? Suggestions? :?

Good luck! :)

Err, I have absolutely no idea what to do except brush them and make sure they look their best! :)

Make sue their feet are clean ( you can use chalk powder to do this) also make sure their are no mats or tugs around their groin, chin or front legs ( a hard tooth brush is fantastic to work out tugs) :)

I'd do a pre-show examination. Check teeth, sex, toenails and make sure their ear tattoo is legible.

This is a good time to clip claws and clean up any stains in their fur (if need be).

Ok:

Before the show (bunnies)

1. Make sure you can read all tattoos- write them down along with your show classes so you can make entries easier when you get there (or you've already done this if it isn't a day of show entry)

2. Brush everybody- make sure there are no tangles if wooled breeds, no mats on the tails for the normal brees. Also, no stains on white bunnies- bad idea.

3. Health check- really make sure to check for mites, also check to make sure the sex stays the same and no body has any abnormal lumps or bumps. CHECK THE TAILS! Sometimes bunnies can actually get a break in the tail (not many judges catch it but it is a DQ).

4. TRIM NAILS! Judges hate being scratched to death!

5. Handle your buns- make sure they're used to it because generally they'll behave better on the table.

Before the show (equipment)

1. A solid bottom carrier simply means the show room doesn't want urine and feces on the floor. A pet carrier is solid bottom but show carriers are nicer because they allow more air flow and easy access to the buns.

2. Pack brushes, baby wipes, water, feed, crocks, pens, paper and pedigrees. Also, if you have a standard it's not a bad idea to take that along too.

3. If you have any for sale be sure to take along a sign and business cards. Many people use dry erase boards because you can reuse them but any sign will work.

4. Pack your grooming carpet or table if you're lucky enough to have one.......

I think that's about all...

We are not supposed to usechalk or anything that might change the color or texture of the fur. But definately give them a good brushing and nail trim ahead of time. Make sure the ears are clean, no wax or canker. Check for any DQ's ahead of time, nail color, white spots, eye color, etc. DOUBLE CHECK THE SEX before you do your entry. (LOL!)

You may want to bring a water bottle and hay to munch on. If they will be in the car a few hours, I will give them a chunk of apple to munch on too. I personally do not bring pelleted feed or water bowls.

Good luck! Please let us know how you do! (Where are you showing?)

I just got back from the show and here are the results:
Snickers was in three open shows and one youth show, He got second in all the open shows and first in the youth show.
MilkyWay was in three open shows and she got 2nd in the first, 3rd in the second one, and 1st in the third one.

It was a fair and I had lots of fun. My bunnies behaved but there was one flemish that jumped off the table and wasn't moving. But he was okay just a little sore. It really scared everyone!
