I am the owner of a Jr. Flemish Giant Light GreyBuck, he will be a year old this August. When I bought him from a localbreeder he seemed to be decent show quality, but a few months later hehad two white toenails on his back left foot!:( After being a member ofthe 4H program for a while, I learned that it is a disqualification forshowing. I called the breeder to ask if this was a problem that hadbeen shown in his other rabbits, but his reply was that he did not knowhow it happened. I noted that the rabbit had broken toenails when I gothim, and the breeder then told me that they may have turned whitebecause of this. Is this true?

He is kept in a large dog cage modified for rabbits, withalarge plank of wood for him to rest on to prevent any moreproblems.

I hope somebody can help me figure out if this was genetic, or a result to poor housing.

Thanks!

I hope so, but Im actually pretty sure that itis genetic... Everyone else I have asked have never heard about brokentoenails turning white.

Yes -- ripped out toenails can grow back inwhite. White toenails on a colored rabbit can also begenetically inherited. White toenails are a disqualificationin colored rabbits.

Welcome aboard, Flemishgiantlover,

As you'll see, we have quite a few Flemish Families on this board. Wecan never have enough, though. The "Flemish Fever" among our membersdoesn't seem to be slowing down.

Would love to see more pictures of your Beauty.

:)
